I doubt very many TV stations and shows will use the word. I don't think it'll be too much of a problem.

Frequent cussing is often a sign of a primitive and faily limited lexicon. The bigger lexicon you have, the less need you have to cuss. Also, the more MATURE you are, the LESS "need" you "have" to cuss.

Emily, FOL, I totally agree with you two. I think censorship such as it is is too annoying and is a bit extreme, but I also don't like the lifting of the ban and allowing the FREE use of such a VULGAR word such as the f-word. it's almost as offensive to me IRL (reading the word is not as bad as hearing it, IMO) as hearing someone God's name in vain (or Christ's for that matter) or using the GD-word.

As I sometimes say to people who use GD all too often: "D***it is NOT God's last name."

I've always lived by a simple rule, that my grandmother taught.

If you wouldn't say it in front of your mother or in church, don't say it at all.

I dont understand. I picked up the F word in around 3rd grade. Whats with the censorship? It isnt going to work unless we get full cooperation from basically every human being on the planet, to not cuss within earshot of a child, and that isn't going to happen. Someone's parent is going to say it in front of their kid, and the kid is going to take it to school, where it will spread like influenza. There is no way to stop it!
Just trying to make a point, I dont know if its really that valid or not.

I dont know why this is, can someone answer me?
In high school, I doubt there is a single person who doesnt know the F word, and has used it atleast a few times. But we arent allowed to say it. I'm not a big curser or anything, just curious.. I guess it's offensive, but that's what its supposed to be. If someone feels like they should say it, they should be able to, to let other people know how they feel. I dunno, thats just me.

My family makes plenty of money, my mom is a pricinct(sp) manager and my step dad is a workgroup manager at Verizon. We aren't just Hillbillies running around shooting animals and cussing. We don't cassually say the f word but if someone for expample slams their finger in a door the f word or sometihng similar might come out. And no one at our house will flinch. But I do understand where you guys are coming from. We don't say that kind of stuff around company.

I still don't think this unbanning is going to be a problem. Honestly there are many otehr things we could be gripeing about that are much more troublesome.

my 6th grade teacher told us that cursing was a sign of ignorance, and i really hated that description. i see it as OK to swear when ur in an adult environment and ur angry or something, but not around little kids. allowing the f word on late night shows ocasionally would be fine if they had a censor program that u can choose to buy, which they do...i dont understand why people complain, they can just buy the v-chip thing or the censor...u shouldnt complain about something thats not ur problem.

Bottomline is the "f word" is just a word. The only reason it's bad is because people say it is (in other words, there really are no real bad things about it).

I could teach my kids that people who say "dumb" and "stupid" are ignorant and immature. That would be no different than teaching them the "f word" is bad. IMO, the no swearing at all costs attitude is pretty immature.

did ANYONE read jdub's link? this is just another exaggeration that's spread across the net. so stop talking about "this unbanning is going to" because there IS no unbanning. carry on with the "is the fword ok or not" argument though

                          You've missed the entire point.

No one is trying to destroy the word from all spoken language. The purpose is to maintain a certain level of decency in very public forums.

Understood. I just don't think it will help/hurt anything to a level that anyone will notice.

I agree with what SHartley said.

Give an inch, take a mile.

While I am all for free speech and anti censorship, I believe there is a time and a place for language like that aformentioned words, and one of them is not on national TV, during primetime.
I know the argument: It's nothing that any of us have not heard countless time at home or in work or in school or from our friends etc. Just because I heard it at work, does not mean I want to hear it on TV when i get home. Plus like SHartley said,it will take the already low, in my opinion, IQ level of modern programming straight down the crapper. It will get the writers one more tool to fill empty air time with.
Plus I really don't want to hear the f-word all over the TV when i turn it on.
What it boils down to is simply this: There has to be limits. With out them things would dissolve into a mindless anarchy that no one would want anything to do with, and things would be far worse off than before.
