from having lived in Quebec/Montreal for about a year total. Most of the people I know/knew were a bunch of uptight prissy separatists who made it quite plain that they didn't like Americans NOR the rest of your country.

When I lived in New York I found a good number of stereotypical New Yorkers. However I found a good many decent, friendly folk as well. The same can be said of my visits to Paris, Toronto, London, Munich (to name the major population centres).

Hey guess what? NY sucks too.

And as for those that HAVE in fact travelled out of their little back water and experienced other parts of the world and their inhabitants first hand, take a good long think as to why all the people you met were hostile or unpleasant. It may just be that they are just reflecting YOUR personality and approach. As the saying goes: "The only common denominator between all your failed relationships is YOU."

Well, I for am soooo glad we have you to point out our little failings to us. Of course none of us Ugly Americans could POSSIBLY have ANY idea of what the REST of this sophisticated world is like right?

By the way FOL, if you haven't gotten my point already, I DON'T think NY sucks. I loved it there. But if I hadn't gone out of my way to find the things worht doing and the people worth meeting on my own, I may indeed have thought the same of NY as you seem to unfortunatly think of Quebec.

I think NY sucks and I've lived here for too many years to count.

As far as my comment about French Canadians being arrogant and boring, you can call that bigoted all you want. Fact is I have direct evidence of it and I stick by my OPINION.

On French Canadians:

They tend to me the more liberal and anti-American variant of the regular Canadian person. They also tend to be disliked or looked down upon by other Candians.

On France:

I can't stand France, as I think everyone knows. Ever since the era of Charles DeGaulle and his "vision" for France to be the counterweight to the two great powers (at the time the US and USSR) France has been nothing but a constant irritant. As a nation it is arrogant. France's national foreign policy has for years been to thwart American interests for no other reason or strategic goal other then to "beat" a super power. I cannot stand a nation whose goals are those.

On America:

I happen to believe that American society is the best in the world overall. While other nations may have an aspect or two that I admire over ours I can truthfully say that we have the best positive to negative ratio of any other nation. I do not believe that makes an American inherently better then someone from any other nationality. I do however think that the country as a whole is better.
