For you agnostics and atheists. Do some research after you see this movie. Find a book called "The Case for Christ" by Lee Strobel. There is also a book to go along with the movie with the same title.
"The Passion of the Christ"....who's seein it???

The problem with this movie is that it gives the uneducated(dumb) people of America the idea that the Jews killed christ. I am a Jew, and frankly I don't think that this movie intends to portray that, I am just worried about the hicks that may see this movie and then go out and commit crimes against Jews.
Also, this will spawn a whole lot of anti-jew jokes among adolescences. Young boys between the ages of 11-16 after seeing this will without a doubt in my mind begin spreading jew jokes and slandering the religion.
Personally I think that the movie is just a ploy to convert more people to Christianity.......and to tell you the truth, it is not too far fetched. It is the lazy man's bible in a way. Why read it when you can go see it on the big screen?Arggggh

I disagree. This story has been told over and over. I don't think that just because they see it on a big screen means they are going to relate to it and then act on their feelings.Originally posted by MrMag

BTW..I hope it does convert more to Christianity. Even Mel Gibson said this movie is a tool to bring people to Christ. I also don't think I'm lazy. I can read my Bible too.Comment

I agree with MrMag mostly for what he said because a lot of the media attention is focused on the fact that the movie protrays the Jews killed Jesus when it wasn't them (it was only a small bit them..since the Romans were controlling the court that the Pharisees sat on) and I'm afraid that the general public will not understand that.

I think sam nailed it when he said people will see whatever they want.
And you could say any mentioning of any religion is a ploy to convert.Comment

you underestimate how stupid some people are. there are MANY people who do not know the story of Christ, and i am willing to bet that there is a great enough percentage of those people who are beyond dumb that could cause a problemOriginally posted by CasingBill

My inlaws are taking me and my wife on friday to go see the movie. I dont think my mother-in-law knows that ive become an Ex-Christian...should be fun.
I am hoping in one of the scenes that Jesus will use his X-Ray vision power to look at Mary Magdelene, cause shes smokin hot. (the actress playing her is at least)

Well, I noticed that no one has yet posted a review of the movie so I will be the first. First I want to say that I have never ever in my entire life seen a crowd at a movie theater so quite after a movie was over. People were just sitting there not moving, many people crying. I personaly was shaking, physicaly. I couldn't stand for a little while. I am a christian and after seeing that movie I can very cofidentaly say that I am very proud to be a christian and I am proud of the fact that my savior gave his life freely of his own will for my own. For the whole entire world for that matter, that includes the agnostics, Buhdusts, Daoists, Confusionists, Atheists, Catholics, and especially the Jews. They are his choosen people after all. Also anyone else I forgot to mention.
That movie touched my deeply and I will never be the same again. I made the crusifiction of christ so very real and showed what really happened to Jesus. When he was being beaten to near death I was near tears myself. It didn't make me cry though until I saw them nail Jesus hand's to the cross. That is when I started crying a bit. It was like watching my savior go through hell just so I didn't have to. How anyone can see this movie and not be effected seems almost impossible. I want to write Mel Gibson and thank him for making this movie and making it so real. This is not a typical bloody movie about just some guy. It is about God sending his one and only son to suffer the consequences of the worlds sins. Without Jesus having gone through that all of us would have had to go through that. For the wages of sin is death and the only was to pay for all sin is to be sinless yourself and there is no human being who is sinless. The only way that sin could be completely attoned for is by a sinless being sacaficing themself for those who did sin. That is why Jesus is known as the lamb of God because he sacrificed himself for us, you, freely. In the movie no one puts Jesus on the cross, he crawls with all the strangth he has left and places himself on the cross. He made the ultimate sacrifice and it was us, you and me, who put him there. That is what this movie is about. It is about us coming to understand what Jesus did for us and to show us that the only way to receive forgiveness for our sin is by accepting what he did for us by laying down his own life in our place. Only then can we be truely cleaned of our sin. I've noticed that I am starting to preach a bit and I am sorry but I need to say this to get the point across. If anyone reading this has any questions at all, and I mean any, pm me or e-mail (prefered) me and I will explain more.Comment

*echos polorboy's sentiments verbatim*
The only difference was, I was not proud to be a "Christian" walking out of the theater. My initial thought was, "I am in fact...a pathetic excuse of a Christian."
Here is how it has initially affected me folks: I apologize for the brash, even arrogant attitude I have had in the past when it comes to matters of my faith, and even politics.
A) My God doesn't need defending against finite humans.
B) I'm only called to testify to what He did...not to defend him against critics.
C) I cannot expect the world to understand my faith, or even accept it unless the Holy Spirit has already been working on their heart and mind.
D) As such, I need to show the love and forgiveness towards those that mock me for my beliefs. As Jesus said, "Remember when they hate you, that they hated me first. No servant is greater than his Master."
I apologize for my behavior folks. I have not been a faithful witness of the God that I claim to serve. He is so much more...His love for us is so much more...and all we have to do is put our faith in Him.
That is what I took away from this movie. I took away more, but I cannot put those things into words at this moment.
Don't let the media tell you what to think about this movie. I encourage you to go see it yourself, and then look within yourself...Comment

well for one, the hollocaust was accurately portrayed in those movies. And if it makes people hate nazis, then good.
Who has seen the upright citizens brigade where they are doing the "forgivness" show, with the hong kong danger duo?
well if you haven't seen it it goes some thing like this.
guy on stage=guy jew in crowd=sam
guy- well we don't have time to forgive everyone here today so we will just apoligise to one race........you, jew.
sam- how do you know I am a jew?
guy- come on........jew we forgive you for killing christ
sam- the jews didn't kill christ, the romans did, everyone knows that.
guy- and for blaming it on the romans.
see that is the type of thing this movie promotes, ignorence and hate. but while the upright citizens brigade did it in a funny context, mel did it in a very real one.
all in all I would recomend the upright citizens brigade DVD to everyone.that is such a chipmunk mentalityComment

1. believe it or not, a large majority of this country believes in jesus. to them it is an accurate representation of what happened. just because you don't believe in him, doesn't mean it's not accurate. there are germans still to this day that deny the holocaust ever existed. so since that group of people doesn't believe in it, does that mean the holocaust is accurately represented?Originally posted by bokraham

2. i'm still getting this superiority vibe that christians aren't smart enough to handle the movie. it's rude and for a lack of a better term it's racist. the movie has been out for 2 days now and every show has been sold out around here. that means ALOT of people have seen it. i haven't heard of one assualt on a jew or one jewish joke. what i have heard is annoyed people who want to see the movie but don't want to hear all the whining from the jewish community. maybe if people would just let it alone and let people make their own choices.Originally posted by bokraham

exactly mel did it in a realistic view. i don't want a watered down version of the story. and there is no way in hell i'd drop some i.q. points and watch something like the "upright citizens brigade"Originally posted by bokraham

bottom line is there were two groups of people present, romans and jews. sorry that's how the story goes. hell i'm italian and i'm not freaking out worrying about hate crimes. the part of the jewish community running around like chicken little screaming "the sky is falling!" is going to bring more loathing towards jews than the movie ever would.Comment

I am going to see this tomorrow.
I am not a Christian-- in fact, I am a militant agnostic. I will defend to the death my right to be unsure.
I do not expect to be in any way 'converted', and I hope that no Christians going to see this movie feel it should be a tool used for witnessing. To so blatantly sell out the suffering of the Lamb is hippocritical and base.
yes, the movie is not entirely historically acurate. That's because groups of world-reknowned scholars have yet to decide what is an "accurate" translation or interpretation of the bible. To say this movie is 'incorrect' when no one knows what 'correct' truely is is silly.
To say that the movie incorrectly puts blame on Jews and Romans is also false. As Jesus was tried and executed by Romans, as he was a subject of the Roman rule, he was indeed killed by Romans. This is a historical fact.
The Jews were indeed involved in the crucifixtion-- Rome had expanded to cover them. The Romans took away the Sanhedrin(the Jewish governing body)'s ability to apply capital punishment. Jewish leaders manipulated the Roman law system in order to have Jesus crucified-- Lk. 23: 2, 3.
In the NT, it is mentioned again in Acts 2: 36, 3: 13-17.

As for "Young boys between the ages of 11-16 after seeing this will without a doubt in my mind begin spreading jew jokes and slandering the religion. "...
In my experience, boys between the ages of 11 and 16 are confused, hateful, and willing to follow the flock. Their comments, anti-semetic and otherwise, are by and large ignored. In fact, this age group is NOT the target audience (surprise, that), and it is doubtful many will be seeing it. Those that will are fairly sure to have parents who educate them outside of school, and who have guided their children to a more mature way of thinking.
I am seeing it with a 13 year old. He is quite intelligent, and I do not doubt his ability to view this movie objectively (he is a Christian, as is the rest of the group I am attending with.)
This is an emotional subject, no doubt. Some of you seem to be letting this fact cloud your perceptions, which is always a dangerous thing.
I've posted this from school, so I won't be around to reply until around 4pm PST. Feel free to Email or PM any personally related replies and/or attacks.

Have to respectfully take issue with you there Sarah. The suffering of the Lamb, and His sacrifice is the core of what we believe...it is in fact, the means by which we ARE saved. His death, and His resurrection are what's referred to as "The Good News." And finally, Jesus himself TOLD his followers to "go and make disciples of all nations". How do we make disciples? By telling His story. So in fact, it is not hypocritical in the least...and is VERY appropriate to use as a "tool for witnessing." What do we have to witness to, if not Jesus's death and resurrection for us? THere's nothing to witness to then!
And don't worry. I'm not trying to convert you. I'm just sharing what I know and have experienced. It's up to you ultimately to make up your mind as to what you believe. I can't convert you anyway. Only the Holy Spirit can accomplish that.
I hope you understand the message of the movie, and appreciate it. Take care!Comment
