uhhh i would still say atheletes get way too much special treatment.

look at it in the real world, as some of you are bringing up. a scientist who finds the cure for a disease, the engineer who invents something new, etc get paid SO much less than professional atheletes. why? because of the pull the entertainment industry has.

is this right? no. but you shouldn't chalk it up to being someone has more talent than you, because frankly, i think there's plenty of other jobs that should get paid a helluva lot more than actors/atheletes/etc (like TEACHERS, for example).

Professional atheletes are outside of the realm of normalcy. They are, in effect, entertainers. You can lump them in with movie stars or television stars or whatnot. They represent a TINY minority of atheletes in general though.

There are kids who study 5+ hours a day, stay up past 1 am for tests, take all AP classes, score 1500+ on there SAT's, and give up their who summers for the Governors school and they dont get any special treatment.

Freshman year i was the only freshman starting Varsity Cross Country. I could run like the wind, and for that, I did get special treatment. During that year i realized how much BS it was. I had a friend that struggled through school and was having a very hard time, and there was me, not doint any work and earning a 3.3 gpa. I can no longer run cross country, I had really bad shin splints and very bad knees. I had fluid build up in my knees summer after Freshman year. a

you shouldnt be playing football for a speical treatment. It should be for you.

Yea think about. We have to practice a lot during the summer in freaking 80-90+ degree weather for 3+ hours a day. We work our butts off to get respect from other schools playing a sport, its a pretty big thing for people. You don't think we deserve a little something in return for that? I think we should. Lifes hard. Luckly are school isn't that bad at all.

You are incorrect. Its all about supply and demand. Any idiot with a degree can be a teacher. Engineers arn't real hard to find. And if a scientist has any sense, and creates a cure for cancer, he will be richer than God. Seaching for the cure doesn't even come close to qualifying as finding a cure.

Atheletes are in high demand, so they get paid well. Most CEOs would call what atheletes earn chump change. They are in even shorter supply. I love a free-market economy.

Saying that you worked hard and should get special treatment is outrageous. "I practiced 100 hours a week and I deserve to pass without trying." That's horrible. What about the kids that maintain a 4.0 with all AP classes and stack piles and piles of activites on top of that? I can say with near certainty that they're putting in more hours than you and they're EARNING their grades instead of being handed an A.

Life is about choices, you CHOOSE to play football, you are not forced to. Therefore, you do not deserve special treatment.

Ok here is my theory. I don't see a problem with certain types of consideration. Ie taking tests later, not getting written up for being late to class, longer deadlines, etc, etc. But I draw the line at easier tests, that's just wrong. And believe it or not it goes both ways. I've had teachers who would go out of their way to schedule tests on days athletes would be gone, give pop quizes then, etc.

And actually, even when I stopped most of my sports and was just the AP/ really high test score guy I got considerations then too. Pretty much if you stand out from the crowd you're going to get some form of recognition.

In my mind, I look at it this way, where will this get me later on life? I've always had that mindset, that if I got help now, then it would hurt me in the long run, but I didnt explain that Im a student athlete. I have some AP classes, like microeco and bio and the like, plus I take vocational for Advanced Graphic Communications. Well, what I'm trying to say is, at this current stage in our lives, aka High School, certain talents or skills are much more appreciated than others. ESPECIALLY those that can be observed and demonstrated publicly.

Also, the the money our football team/athletics generate for the school is another reason for the treatment. The high GPA kids really cant do much with that within this stage of life, until LATER on like in college. I just dont think there was reason to look outside of the box and compare it to a world situation.

Don't get pissed off over something like this. There's always going to be someone better than you at sports, thingking, etc. They're probably going to get special treatment.

dude, its the same everywhere. My government teacher is the coach of the football team. He must be a teacher so he can coach football. all we have done in class this year is watch Mr. smith goes to washington and talk about janet jacksons nipple! (can I say nipple?) anyway he is really fat and sometimes he wears a turquious sweat shirt and it makes him look like a giant mint skiddle
