hehe Ive been lucid dreaming for years, my brain pretty much does it automatically at this point, its almost grown to the point im leading a double life, the other being within my lucid dreams, its pretty spiffy. The only down side is, ive grown to the point where I remember just about as much as I do when awake, leaving most of the trivial portions out... its basically just 'another day' sort of thing, the only difference is I rock at everything... and the 'world' is mine to mold as my heart desires... super duper lots of fun

Foo, thats a good question. Well, the moment you realize that you are dreaming you know that everything is not real. You know you can't get hurt or embarrassed or anything. At that moment you should be able to control yourself and your surroundings. I'm not exactly sure how to do this yet, but I'm sure it will come in time. I think it has something to do with your instincts. For example, lets say you're dreaming and you notice your hand. After looking at your hand you realize that you are dreaming, hence you are now lucid dreaming. You look around, notice all the cool colors and the sudden loss of weight. And then you remember that you want to fly. So you get that idea in your head, and then you try it. Thats how I plan to do it. Once you know you're dreaming you know you can't get hurt. So try jumping off a building and seeing what happens.

Minimag, wanting your mind to tell you what it wants is controlling your dream. "You" are just an image of yourself within your mind when dreaming. You should try to experiment with this amazing ability and I think you'll be surprised. Just imagine having the power to do anything. Remember that girl that made your jaw drop when she walked past you...well now she is yours! All the girls that you ever imagined are all yours.
"Men think they think upon great politcal questions, and they do; but they think with their party, not independently; they read its literature, but not that of the other side; they arrive at convictions, but they are drawn from a partial view of the matter in hand and are of no particular value. They swarm with their party, they feel with their party, they are happy in their party's approval; and where the party leads they will follow, whether for right and honor, or through blood and dirt and a mush of mutilated morals."

I heard that if you died in your dreams you die in real life... is that true if you jump off a building trying to fly and die?

I've been able to fly when and however I want to in my dreams for as long as I can remember (it seems to be a popular thing to want to do). It used to be so real that when I was young (8 or 9) I used to think I could do it for real as well . My dreams are very close to reality for me. I can fly as and when I want in my dreams.

If I hadn't become an engineer I was going to be a psychologist and look into perception and things like this

Nope not at all. It's something I don't like doing but it's not a problem

I've nearly drowned in real life and had many lucid dreams of the same or similar experiences.

                  interesting...

Manike, this is very interesting. Sounds like you have a high-level lucidity. If you can fly anywhere or anytime then you definately have control. Have you ever had any training for this, or did this just come to you? You are very lucky to have this ability. Its taken Tibetan monks their whole life to reach absolute lucidity.

Do me a favor, next time you're lucid dreaming walk through a mirror. After you do this tell me what happens. I am very curious as to what happens when you walk through a mirror. I have read that you enter a totally different world. Sounds cool. Post it the next time you have a lucid dream.

Gmag, I've been able to do this for as long as I can remember. I think it's tied in with my imagination and ability to 'model' things in my head and sort out how they work (comes in useful for my job). It's never something I have thought about that much other than trying to explain it occasionally to people.

It has actually scared me on occasion but not lately. I had one lucid dream which I couldn't wake out of. Then I did but it continued when I went back to sleep, to this day it was so real I am not sure if I did ACTUALLY wake out of it or not... I could believe either way it was all that real. It was very, very nasty and even though it was a long time ago I still remember it just as if it was real life (maybe more so).

In all honesty I've never gone to bed trying to dream. I have fallen back asleep and wanted to get back into the same dream and been succesful. I'm not sure If I could just goto bed and try to dream though. I can also continue stories from dreams in several nights sleep.

In my dreams if I walked through a mirror what would happen is what ever I wanted to have happen (or whatever my psyche wanted to happen). Same as if I walked through a doorway. It could have the same effect for me. I doubt I'd put significant relevance to a mirror that I wouldn't have in the dream anyway... if you understand what I mean. As ever this is hard to explain. I think certain things in certain peoples dreams mean more to them than they would for others in their dreams. i.e. objects in my dreams are relevant to me. If I put in a mirror just to walk through it it may not have any relevance, but opening a door or something may have a similiar relevance to the other person's mirror...

I try to avoid doing things in dreams that I know are stupid. Like stepping off of buildings I wouldn't step off, I would step into flight from... if you know what I mean there is a difference, but I definitely have superhuman powers in my dreams. I often used to just take flight and I quite often do that in dreams still. Amongst other things

My imagination is one of the strongest things in my life. I used to think it was bad, but now I love it and make the most out of it.

                      Very cool...

You are very lucky. I envy the fact that you have this ability without training. You have what takes some people their whole lives to do in the tips of your fingers. Please tell me some other suggestions on what to do and where to go when lucid dreaming. I know what you mean with the mirror. So then what is your mirror equivalent?

gmag, I think my mirror IS my lucid dreams... They allow me to go wherever I want and do whatever I want. They allow me to be in a different world, where I have complete control and whatever I want happens.

It's hard to give advice as it is something that just happens for me.

I steer them but often just let them go as they are my psyche doing what it wants and feels is important, generally I just steer them when it feels necessary (again very hard to explain). They sometimes follow one subject and sometimes are very twisty turny with sidetracks all over. I can let stuff happen or make it happen as required.

It's kinda at the point where I remember them and can almost decide in the morning if I want to keep the memory... sometimes as ever I just lose them but often it's a choice. Sometimes I have to be careful to remember them as a dream so I know it was a dream and not reality. I have previously dreamt I did certain things or told people things when in real life I didn't. It just seems so real at the time I can look back on it as if I did it... Kinda weird when you know you told something to someone but they swear you didn't... A little bad in relationships.

Anyway It is now time for me to go to bed. I have found that with all my work and stress lately I sleep less and not so well. Getting a good nights sleep is important I'm a big fan of sleep and could often just keep sleeping for a long time.
