AO: We are back from the dead... again! After an 18 day outage, we are finally alive and well. Who knew how complicated updating software/databases from 2008 would be. I still have alot of tweaks to make, but my main goal was getting everything patched and updated to 2026.
Vbulletin 6 has changed alot since 2008 so we will have a ton of new features to dig into.

Actually they are both scorpion species.
There were multiple threads on this on PBN. A lot of what people say about them is myths. They cannot grow to be two feet (5 inches across on average), and they do not run 25 mph (10 mph). They also do not inject a anesthesia into their victim to eat it. All they do is pounce on their prey and kill it (like a tarantula).
lol, thats nice to know... but 10 mph... granted I'd out run the little varment but that thing would be right on my tail...

Solifugids are curious little creatures which due to their odd appearance have been referred to by different names including romans, sunspiders and beard cutters. They belong to the class Arachnida, which also includes spiders, scorpions, whip scorpions, ticks pseudoscorpions and harvestmen.
There 900 known species of solifugids world-wide, of which Southern Africa is richly endowed with 6 families and a total of 240 species. Solifugid comes from Latin and means 'fleeing from the sun' which is an apt description since most are nocturnal although some are diurnal. The larger species tend to be nocturnal while the smaller brightly coloured species are diurnal. They are more abundant in drier regions and range in size from 25mm to 75mm in length.
Oh Dear Lord that brings back some vicious memories.
I found one of them suckers in my steemer trunk when I was stationed in Saudi back in '96. This was right after Khobar Towers was bombed (20 guys killed). we moved the flight ops out to PSAB and were livin in tents...
...so I'm lyin in my cot readin a magazine by flashlight and I hear this shuffling of paper sound commin from my trunk (where I kept my Valuables, undergarments & reading material)...so I sit up and point my flashlight at the trunk (only a foot away from my cot) but dont see anything & the sound stops as soon as I move. So I go back to reading...(it was a quiet nite & the only other sounds were a light breeze ruffling the tent & a couple other guys snoring)...
...So the shuffling sound starts again & I'm thinkin 'rat' (they were common). I point my flashlight in that direction again but still dont see anything (if you can imagine the shadows cast by a flashlight in a dark room- Plenty of places to Hide) & the sound has stopped again...
So this time I turn Off the light and sit there listening for it (I know what you're thinking)...
Sure enough the shufling sound starts again and its definatly comming from the trunk a foot away...
***Now Imagine my black trunk sitting on one of those rectangular folding-leg tables and me sitting on my cot a foot away faceing it.***
So I really quick turn on my flashlight expecting to see a rat and... DEARGODinHEAVEN!!!
one o them SonsOBi***'s is just starting to poke his head over the edge of my trunk not a foot away from my friggin face.
I cannot describe to you the shrill, girlish screech I made as I commenced to back-flip, spin & rotate myself out of that tent BUT I can GUARoNTEE You that every Man in that tent & the 20 tents around us was AwAke from that moment on.
After the Usual (& expected) WTF's and loud questioning of my manhood, there was a parade of GI's goin in our tent to check out my new "friend".
And would'nt you know, not ONE of them Hero's volunteered to go in & help me remove it.
I'm sure glad I took a Huge Dump before I hit the sack that evening cause if I hadnt, I woulda then.
Yeah, spiders in general scare the crap out of me. Most insects do actually. Probably from the night I woke up and a nice wolf spider I think they are called was on my bed. I can't even imagine seeing one of those things....I'd probably faint.
i had some pictures a guy sent me from when he was in kuwait, he had scorpions and camel spiders just casually walking around in their tents, cots, living space. he did manage to catch a cute little hedgehog in the mess hall one day. unfortunatelly those pictures were on the old hard drive.
