Bush Administration and the possibility of a draft

Alright, well this was posted on PBR and I just wanted to see what people thought about it. Is the possibilty of a draft becoming more of a reality? I'm really not worried about it, I'm just curious.

Also, if there was a draft... would you go?

Also, I realize the article comes from Canada...

I don't see it being needed.

More than likely a "scare" tactic by those who don't like who will be effected by spreading it.

      Nonsense.

The US is NOT going to be instituting a draft anytime in the near future.

If we wanted more service men and women, we'd loosen the tight entry requirements to allow more people who are now being turned away, in.

The military in this country is the single best equipped, trained and staffed in the world. Ever.

There is no reason to institute a draft. I have just read that Coast Guard is going through a waiver free period, meaning that if you don't meet the enlistment requirements, you can't join. The Army is also considering anyone who had asthma before the age of 12 to be waiver free. I do not know if it is true but it has been talked about in the about.military.com forums. So it sounds that the Armed Forces are not having a hard time enlisting people.

Na, won't happen. Look at it this way...we have been in Iraq for a year now and 600 soldiers have lost their lives. In Vietnam, we lost 40,000 lives in what 7 years? That is why there was a draft in the 60/70's. Also, since Sept 11, the armed forced have seen quite a jump in enrolment. I don't think we are in any kind of shortage of military man power.

lol, there are so many units requesting to go to iraq, and getting turned away. there are sooooo many soldiers and Marines to be sent still, we arent even close to begining to think about needing a draft....

              p.s.

So I take it you don't like Clinton!

That article is a bunch or garbage. It is being spread by Anti-Bush partisans. Just like MoveOn is a 527 and not co-ordinating with Kerry.

Besides Congress has to reinstate the draft, not Bush. This is just more lies from the left!

its not a matter if you go... and if you dont well, lets just say im with devildog on this.

But dont worry kiddies you wont see a draft... especially on an election year. After all what do yall think this iraq thing is?... Vietnam?

Hell we lost more people in 'nam before noon than we lost this entire year in iraq. Dont think im trivializeing this but its pretty redicilious to think that we would resort to something like a draft.

I agree. This is not Vietnam. There are no jungles to hide in. Here we have absolute supremacy. The only thing stopping us is our ouwn restraint.

Maybe it is time to go Roman on their buttocks!! Destroy their cities and sow their fields with salt. Who can we sell them into slavery too?

This is not Vietnam for many reasons. First they are a few thousand miles apart!

Seriously though, this is not a creeping war like Vietnam. We went in with guns blazing. We will leave the country free and better then when we invaded. We have also killed far less then Saddam did. I do think we should show the insurgents some real military might though to make them understand what they are dealing with. Maybe we could carpet bomb around Fallujah to show them real might and frighten the populace into turning the insurgents in!

This is what I think we need to do with Iraq.

Not sure if it's been said yet, because I don't have enough time to read as I'm heading out the door as soon as i finish this post.

But...In the Vietnam War, there was a draft. The drafted soldiers did nto want to be there, had low moral, didn't neccesarily want to fight, and often weren't military material. I think that this is one of the hundreds of causes of us losing the war. I doubt there would be another draft...

Yea I think this article is complete BS. There is absolutley no reason to reinstitute the draft. After 9/11, there has been a huge influx of patriotism in our country, causing for our military to grow considerably in the past 2 years.

That article is from a Canadian only newspaper. Right there you can tell its a little fishy. Damn canucks.
