Actually IIRC we only lost 300-400 people the first 3 years in Vietnam, starting in 1961.

As for the draft, I dont see a draft anytime soon. Especially during an election year.
While a draft is always possible, there would have to be some major conflicts erupting to initiate it. So maybe...a major middle east conflict *and* a north korean one, could trigger it???? maybe dunno...

God you really are a bit retarded aren't you?

They brought it upon themselves? Oh ALL OF THEM did, OBVIOUSLY.

So it's quite alright for us to kill EVERYONE in Northern Ireland because of the IRA bombing campaign which we endured for decades? Well, after all, they brought it on themselves.

A small minority of fanatics who are murdering scum does not give anyone the excuse to exterminate entire nations....or indeed even towns + villages.

Oh well. No skin off my back. I just joined the navy as a Nuclear Field Specialist. Got myself a 12k signing bonus too. The first two years of my service is college level classes ( Advanced Trig, Physics, Thermodynamics, ect) followed by 4 yrs safely nestled away in the depths of the atlantic ocean.

Plus it IS hard to get into the military despite the common misconceptions.

                        Heres a brief (very) list of DISQUALIFYING conditions;
                        *ANY history of asthma
*Any Ritalin use (Or the equivalent)
*Any Prozac or other anti-depressant useage

Other things that can possibly affect you getting in:
                        *Broken bones
                        *ER Visits
                        *Any major surgeries
                        *Concussions
                        *Drug useage
                        *Trouble with the law

I (and just about every person trying to get in the military) have to lie about having not had several conditions. You should see the medical questionair they give you. Some of the questions could be everybody (like HEADACHES). And if you check yes to any of them then they automaticly send you away and you have to try to obtain waivers (can be a lengthy process).

Anyways, I personally feel that there is some youth that could use some military treatment. Some of my peers lack so much respect to anything and take everything for granted. But, whatever. Bleh im done.

Congrats on getting into the Military and becoming a Navy squid! I also agree with you about todays youth. They have no repect for anyone anymore, well just the ingrateful slackers.
