thats it - i'm comming to san diego with a Steyr AUG under my right armOriginally posted by SanDiegoMagWHAT!? are you kidding? you ARE allowed to have a gun in most public places. It just cant be concealed. For example here in san Diego, you are allowed to have a rifle/shotgun slung across your shoulder, and as long as you are'nt shooting it, it is legal. So ya, carying a gun, even if not used, will make crime go down.

I think you're making a poor reference to when the swordsman is challenging him, and he just shoots him....Originally posted by PyRoWho saw indiana jones, where the karate guy is going to kick his but, so he just shoots him :)
As for martial arts, there's nothing wrong with being a "small man" or a woman. Why would that matter? "If you have time for it"... yes, while martial arts require extreme discipline and a lot of effort, it helps you out in your daily life. I agree there's not much to do if they're pointing a gun at you but be submissive, unless you know a technique to disarm. Also, you missed my point that most people will be submissive anyway.
A gun course in high school? Can't see this helping much. Another thought is, even if there are no guns in school... will there be metal detectors in schools? I know some have them already, but come on, a public school should be where children can feel SAFE and not have to worry about when the next firefight is.
Okay, the point is, even if people think that guns are the right way to go... I can't ever see this passing through, at least in my lifetime.

"If everyone carried a gun"
I think we all need to recognize that "everyone" (in conjunction with legal rights/privileges) never means every single individual. "Everyone" has the right to vote, the privilege of driving, the right to freedom of movement, etc. Except minors, the insane or mentally incompetant, and people who have had their rights/privileges restricted by the courts as punishment for crimes.
Sociologocally speaking, in small societies where cooperation is necessary for the survival of all people tend to be polite and non-confrontational in their speech and their actions. People accept easily the idea that anti-social behaviour has a strong likelihood negative consequences. I believe that if "everyone" had a gun, that you would get the same social response of politeness and good behaviour.
