Teacher getting fired for Nick Berg Video

Ah....well I would need to know more about the situation to comment on that particular one.

But recently a teacher in one of our local schools (next county over) was transfered for talking about her faith and religon in school. Seems someone asked her if she believed in God and she went into a discussion about it. She does by that way. Believe in God. And one student complained to their parents about it. But later I learned she had previously been reprimanded and warned for using Religon in another class earlier in the year. Something about her designing a class lesson around it. She was then offered a transfer and refused to accept it. However it was later forced upon her. She was not fired. However she had been warned but felt compelled to do it anyway. Complex situation really. Where are the rights of ALL the students and parents and the rights of the Teachers crossing over each other? Hard to say. Difficult challenge really.

Most of the people in high school are'nt allowed to see a rated R movie without their parents permission, much less what I would consider a rated X online film. This is'nt a slasher movie, it's a real guy screaming and dying as head head is carved off. That might upset some people up including your "little sophmore" It's not your teachers call to make that choice for anyone elses children. He took away the parent's choice as to whether they wanted their minor kids to see that murder, or not. I've heard few cases of teachers doing this recently and one even went so far as to tell the class, "See what we get for going to war?"

I'm not saying you teacher had a political agenda but that kind of thing infuriates me. He may be a great teacher otherwise, but he boned big time, and he should be severely punished, at least, if not fired, in my opinion.

well, perhaps he deserves it....??? Like phil said, there is a need for additional info that none of us are likely be privvy to.

1) a video like that should not have been shown to anyone under the age of 18 without parental concent (without exception!).

2) perhaps the kids parents are over protective, but they do certainly have the right to be pissed. The teacher showed a video that should not have been on a computer belonging to a school district not to mention shown to school students under the age of 18. This teacher allowed an imature student make a decision that could potentially damage themselves (need therapy).

3) you say they are ruining his career, but he is the one that showed it, and he should be repremanded. I think that him being fired seems a bit extreme, but perhaps he has be warned against things before....???

4) another teacher i heard about on the news is in trouble for makeing their students right a paper on how what happened to Nick Berg in relation to the abuse of Iraqui prissoners. A topic like that could be construed as the teacher imposing a personal political bias, which is wrong!

You did'nt know how bad it was Sam? I saw a few stills and heard the audio on Hannity the other day and that was enough to make me feel sick.

There's no excuse for showing that to minors.

I have seen the video, downloaded by a fellow student at school, and I would rate it right along with all the Holocaust Videos that have been shown in class that my parents did not receive a slip or letter about. The fact that it is more graphic and violent and in color is the only real difference I can see. Now, one of my teachers showed Schindler's List in school, as well as other war movies, after school that the Students could attend at their own choice. The teacher gave the students the choice to attend, and did not use school time to show it. Now, I don't know what that school does and does not allow to be shown, but I don't think that he should be fired unless he has recieved warnings for other thing he did.

Oh and one note to all the mental midgets who keep bringing up the Holocust, there is one major difference. The people responsible have been brought to justice. Thats not the case here. Showing the video was just political ploy.

i forget the correct spelling, but that included some controvercial stuff, and our teacher didnt get fired or anything...

I'm sorry, but most of my family are teachers and i myself intend on going into teaching and none of them would EVER have done that. I say he deserves to get fired for showing that to his kids. I just downloaded the video and saw it and that movie is inappropriate for adults to watch let alone high school kids. That was cowardice and simply unimaginable what they did. They hopefully will get theres in the end.

I have not, and will not watch the video... the audio on Hannity was enough, and I listened to about 3 seconds of it.

The teacher should have been gone the next day. Period.
