That is my opinion also. I haven't seen it, and after reading this thread I am very glad I haven't. If a teacher had shown it to one of my children getting fired would be the LEAST punishment I would accept. There is something seriously wrong with a teacher that can't doesn't realize that showing that movie to minors is WRONG.

well as a parent i for one would not be placing any phone calls to my childs school making any demands that included his firing. it was certainly a poor decision on his part, but not to the extent that he should lose his job. while that video was very shocking and violent, i dont see it stunting the growth of the average american 15/16 year old. if this had been elementary school it would be a different matter.
would those of you advocating terminating this teacher require the school to hand out premission slips before watching any 9/11 related video? speaking only for myself, i have a much harder time watching any video covering that day than this nick berg video.
maybe this teacher has stepped out of line in the past and this is a perfectly acceptable response, but to me if this is his one and only transgression i dont think the punishment fits the crime. there is a need for punishment, but paying for this one mistake with his job is, to me, extreme.Comment

If/When you are a parent you will probably have a different opinion. Most of us parents want/demand the right to make those choices. Has ANY parent in this tread voiced an opinion in favor of the teacher? Think about that.Originally posted by Archangel KidIf they wanted to see it they should be allowed and their parents should NOT choose whether they can see it or not.

well i disagree with you on this. i think it is important that as many americans see this video as possible. as shartly pointed out earlier in the thread he expected something less vile than what actually happened. you really cannot get a grasp of the video by hearing the audio or having someone else describe it. it is important for all of us to know the kind of threat, the kind of evil facing our troopers over there and infact our country as a whole. what is inappropriate is that there are people in this world that have the desire to make these kinds of videos, the desire to strap on a vest full of tnt and walk into a crowed cafe, the desire to fly airplanes into office buildings. try to imagine your feelings if you only heard the audio from 9/11, would it be as powerful as seeing the images?Originally posted by ASDadamI just downloaded the video and saw it and that movie is inappropriate for adults to watch let alone high school kids.Comment

That is not hard to do. I heard about it before I saw anything. Actually watching a plane fly into the building did NOTHING to change any opinions I hold.Originally posted by logamusTry to imagine your feelings if you only heard the audio from 9/11, would it be as powerful as seeing the images?
Watching that video would also do nothing to change any of my opinions.
Do you have high school age children? Would you be okay with a teacher showing that to your children?
Regardless, I'm willing to bet that a great majority of parents would not want a teacher to show that video to their children without their permission. The highlighted phrase is a very important part. Would you be okay with that being shown to your children without your permission?

Uh if this happened in Texas then this just hit the news.
And the report is this....
He showed it to three different classes over a two day period.
And the school found out after "many" complaints from parents came in.Comment

Amen! Kids couldn't see the passion of Christ without parental permission, a public execution should be no different!Originally posted by Load SM5You did'nt know how bad it was Sam? I saw a few stills and heard the audio on Hannity the other day and that was enough to make me feel sick.
There's no excuse for showing that to minors.
This teacher took it upon himself. Had he wanted to do this as a lesson plan with parental permission in advance, then fine. On his own? See ya! Don't let the door hit you where the good Lord split you on the way out!Comment

Oh and one note to all the mental midgets who keep bringing up the Holocust, there is one major difference. The people responsible have been brought to justice. Thats not the case here. Showing the video was just political ploy.
rooster you are truly an idiot. You do not even know if he was a democrat or a republican but yet you feel because you dont like the decision he made hes a democrat. O and all the people commited crimes in the hollocaust where not brought to justice so i guess this does make you the mental midget.Comment

LOL! My little friend, you have made my day. Once, every so often, there comes along a child who is under the mistaken impression that I am wrong, and they are right. My little friend, you have given me an excellent laugh.
There is no question who was guilty of the atrocities during the Holocaust. The trials were held and the instigators sentenced to death. But nice try. Keep me laughing though.

Several teachers in the SoCal area are in trouble for the very same reason. Showing it to H.S kids. Now I haven't seen the tape, nor have I heard the audio. It's an execution video. Who needs to hear/see that?
Rooster- The people show these films for whatever reason they wish. You might think they are for political purposes but unless you know the people you can't go jumping to that conclusion. It's like jumping off a cliff before looking to see if their is water below. In fact one of the teachers here in SoCal is a sub. She has been relocated for having several religious themed classes.Sorry, I'm oldComment

They weren't forced to watch though, so it's not as bad, you're still right."What we have to accomplish at this time is all the more clear: relentless criticism of all existing conditions, relentless in the sense that the criticism is not afraid of its findings and just as little afraid of the conflict with the powers that be."

Peer pressure might make it mandatory. At least with parental permission the kids that don't want to see it have the out of "My un-cool parents said no!"Originally posted by -Carnifex-They weren't forced to watch though, so it's not as bad, you're still right.Comment

Then you could say that same for Alcohol, etc.
On a side note, some stupid girl in my Spanish class was describing the video to her British buddy and deemed it "Gross and cool." I promptly called her an idiot and other things I'd be banned for.
