Car Help. My car just stopped going all of a sudden

Well, im just 16, but my Dad does the work. I am just trying to find a cheap way out of it, but unfortunately, there is not really a cheap way out of anything.

The easiest way to troubleshoot this problem is to get some starting fluid and put a small shot of it in the air intake. If it attempts to fire when you crank it over it would definately be fuel related. If it doesnt, then its spark related. this should make it easier for you to diagnose.

If it makes the "CLICKICKICKCIKCIKCICK" sound when cranking, it'll be battery or starter solinoid related.

Which is what Pyro said.

If it is actually cranking, the starter fluid trick will let you know what's going wrong.

I'll throw another idea out there. You could have a cracked spark coil, which when heated makes you lose spark. It could be lots of things wrong. Do some of the tests, and let us know.

Or take it to a mechanic.

The noise it makes is the noise it usually makes before it starts up but it never starts up. I just went outside to check it and it started like normal. So maybe it could be some sort of sensor or something?

I'd say the fuel pump. Maybe even the relays going to the fuel pump. Now you made me think of something to put in my sig now, too.

Ok it takes a special breed of ford lovers to lack this sense. Perhaps one of you would like to tell me why the lack of fuel is making the starter make odd noises?

I would guess some odd electrical or tranny problem.

its definetly electrical, sounds like your battery might be dead or close to dead. its also possible your alternator is bad and not charging the battery. thats a good place to start.

i know when the alternator started going bad in my truck, and the battery didnt have enough power to crank the motor, it made a clicking sound like you are describing. worth a shot, you can take your alt out yourself, its easy, and take it to autozone, napa, advanced auto, or any place like that, they can test it for free.

its either the fuel pump or the coil.


it was the coil with my friends 86 ltd crown vic, he wouldn't let us try and fix it though he scrapped it and added $200 to buy a crappier '83 ltd.

I am close to 100% sure it is not the alternator because I just put a brand new one in $300.00 from the dealership. I had to put a bigger one in because of my system. When I start it, it doesn't make funny noises, it just doesnt start.
