My car was just doing this a month or so ago. I slapped a new coil pack on it and it runs like normal now. It would only do it when it got good and hot then shut off. But i was told, fuel pump, Coil pack, and fuel filter.

Props to echo419 for the sig

its either the fuel pump or the coil.

it was the coil with my friends 86 ltd crown vic, he wouldn't let us try and fix it though he scrapped it and added $200 to buy a crappier '83 ltd.

Does it always do this after the car gets warm?

Does it do it only after driving fast/slow?

How long before it starts again?

A few thoughts. If the coil is bad then it will (generally) fail more after it warms up. This normally will start as a skipping rather than a complete failure though.

Before you start your car when its cold , turn the key to the on position and be quiet (no radio). You should hear your fuel pump kick on the get the pressure up. Assuming it is injected. It can also be a sensor that regulates the pressure for the fuel pump.

I have actually seen a clogged Catalytic converter (as well as fuel filter, and trash in gas tank)cause this problem too. Blocked exhaust will create so much backpressure that the car will cease to run for a minute and then run fine again for a while.

As has been said...save yourself some greif , pay a diagnostic fee at a reputable garage or dealer and cut out the guesswork.
