    Ayn Rand
    Piers Anthony
    Steven Baxter
Clive Cussler (guilty pleasure, terribly formulaic, but I enjoy them)
Lots more, but its late, and my brain is on sleep mode

I also like tolkien, but not because he is a great writer. His books are a chore to read, especially all those freaking songs he inserts. Everyone is always singing! BUT, he had a terrific imagination, and thats what made his books so interesting.

I agree with your opinion on Imajica it rocked But I rarely read horror anymore. Even though Imajica really isnt horror but thats where they pigeon hold Barker.

My favorite would have to be Jack Kerouac. I did my senior thesis in college on him.
I also like in no particular order. Henry Miller, Clive Cussler, DH Lawerence, Anais Nin... too many others to list...

Neal Stephenson: Snow Crash is very very good

Henry Rollins: Depressing stuff, but a good read

Heinlien (I hope I spelled that right)

He is good way better IMHO than Asimov as his works are more accessable, his collections of short stories are very well crafted.
When this last came up about books and what we were reading at the moment (if at all) I said about the Civil War/Great War/American Empire series by Harry Turtledove...well at the time I was a couple missing from the series but now have the complete series (for now as there are still 2 more books to come apparently) So I am now on the last one plus I read a couple of stand alone books by him one with the south winning the civil war dues to Kalashnikovs being provided and the other about the Spanish Armada (Ruled Britannia) actually winning and what happened afterwards. a compliant raised about his books (when this was last covered) was that the sex scenes detracted form the story...no they don't, they add to it. I have read several sex scenes in my time as I am sure many others have and these do not compare in the same way
Will be starting to read the World War and Colonization series next week.

Heinlein is an excellent author. So it Turtledove, though I think that his Videssos cycle series, which may have been his first, was the best series he has done. But all of his stuff is an entertaining read. I like Gibson too, with Neuromancer and all that.

I read the big three. Asimov, Card, and Heinlein.
I also enjoy Tim LaHey, Dale Brown, and Tom Clancy.

It all depends on what mood I'm in.

I have read all of michael crichton's books as well as a good majority of stephen king's. I'm more into the type of book rather than the author

                        Gibson
                        Clancy
                        Ludlum
                        Crichton
                        Asimov

And many more. Did anyone else read that new series by Orson Scott Card it was really boring IMO.

Card-He seems to have gone downhill
Clancy-Good at first, but he seems to have gotten very full of himself. His latest stuff is mediocre. And netforce? Ugh...
Crichton-Always entertaining, I like how each book is about something completely different than the rest, and its always fascinating.

I enjoy the author of the "Honor Harrington" series, though I cant remember their name.

                              In no order at all,
                              Dean Koontz
Tom Clancy (mostly his Op-Center series)
Dan Brown (LOVED "Angels and Demons" and "The Da Vinci Code")
                              Richard Marcinko

I think I'm missing an author too, but those are authors I brought with me...
