I once refused a search of my vehicle (pre-Columbine) with no repercussions. The long story was a few people wanted to fight me.. just me. I told them fine but I was going to my car to get something first. It was within ear shot of the school security guard who immediatly demanded to search my car. I told him not a chance. Three minutes later I told the principal if he felt he could force me to open it for him he needed to call my parents immediatly, he declined and the issue went no further. Funny thing is I had nothing to hide, I was just being a jerk. We used to park along the street, now I was in the school parking lot but I would take a guess that if my vehicle had been on the street they couldn't have touched me for anything regarding it. As it is they never bothered to do anything about it.
As a student, if you feel your rights are being violated demand your parents (if your under 18). if the school is in a gray area they normally back off at that - school adminstrators are used to dealing with kids and don't like dealing with there "equals" or other adults - at least in general.

It sux.
