Is Halo 2 age appropriate for 8 & 11 year olds?

The title says it all. The kids got an XBox for Christmas and want Halo 2. I thought I would ask those here for their opinion. So, what do you think? Is Halo 2 (or Halo) appropriate for 8 and 11 year old children?

    Thanks...

Well, the ESRB rating IS mature(age 17+).. but I was probably playing mature games at around 8 and 11. Really, it depends on how protective of your kids you are. It has blood, violence.. I cant remember but it might have some language in it too.
Its a good game but like I said it depends on how protective you are. I dont think it will scar them for life or make them bring guns to school or anything like that, but its pretty violent (being a FPS and all )
Meh, sorry if that didn't help, but if I were you I would sneak out to blockbuster, and play it when the kids aren't around if you have the time. It's pretty fun and you'll be able to judge your actions better and not end up making a decision you might regret.

        No.

Quite a bit of gore, human or not. The language is tame, but outside of that, it's a fairly hardcore game. It's rated M for a reason. Besides that, I don't think the 8y/o will have the motor skills to operate the controller correctly (Hell, I'm that plus 10 years and it took me a while to get the hang of it).

That said, I got the same for Christmas and have already played it until my eyes bled and plan to do it again soon.
        Such a sham(e).

As long as you don't let the 8 and 11 year olds play on Live, because I hate hearing squeaky little voices moaning about cheating or some stupid stuff

Also on Live people will most likely be swearing, which is why all online games now say "Game experience may change during online play."

My 10 year old brother plays it, but I really don't think my mom would have let him [or my 13 year old bro] play without heavy persuasion from me.. cuz I wanted a second copy in the house for the second Xbox plus some faces to shoot from time to time

I'd say no. If you have to stop and think about the game, it's probably over the line for such young kids. It's rated mature, that should tip you off right away. There is lots of blood and gore (and I didn't see a content filter option in the menus, not like I was looking for it specificly anyways) and it's a shooter, it's supposed to be violent.

Edit: And after playing on Live with my friends all night: if you do decide to get the game anyways, never ever even think about letting them on Live.

I've been playing "Mature" rated games since I was very young (I'm 18 now), back when Mortal Kombat came out on SNES and Genesis and everyone was throwing a fit over it, and I turned out 100% OK.

It all depends on your kids, the game does have a lot of blood effects that you can't turn off, and when you score a headshot the guys fall down in a (really sweet) but graphic display, stuff like this makes the game fun for us adults, but might scare a kid. Also, there are some enemies later on that would be pretty freaky to an 8/11 year old, I know this because they freaked out some of my friends who are 17/18. I wouldn't say Halo 2 is the worst game out there, it doesn't promote random violence like the GTA series or True Crime and the gore isn't up to like Unreal Tournament gib standards.

In conclusion, since I don't really know your kids, I would have to say no. If they can handle stuff similar to this already (like gory/scary movies, stuff like that) then go for it.

Maybe someone can PM me why my sig was tampered
with when my image is below 20 kb and was 350x159.(20435 bytes/1024 bytes per kb = 19.96 kb.)

That depends on your definition of ok.

I would not let them get the game. There is a reason it is rated M. You're better off getting them Greg Gasting PB. They get to play thier Xbox and you can play with them. Maybe get yours kids interested if they are not already.

I was playing Doom when I was like 5 and listening to Marilyn Manson by 8. I turned out (somewhat)normal.

I say go for it and get them Halo 2. Not like it's Grand Theft Auto or anything.

well it all depends. because to me halo and many other games that are rated M should be rated T because i am a big resident evil fan i love that game. it has a crap more gore and blood and bones in it then other games and same with other games like the silent hill games and doom and all that.

to me halo is cool for 8- to ten year olds but not online

online should be M. alot of swaring and i have beed playing with a lot on yong kinds on halo now of times and all they do is screw around and mess up what the rest of the team is tring to do.

and an other though how can they rate games like halo, socom on ps2, and other games that are rated M but look at theas games that are rated M
