Can anyone recommend a good radar/laser jammer?

Well, maybe not only a jammer. I know for detectors, it's V1/8500 or nothing.. but I figure, why just know it's there if I can mess with it?

Anyway, google is giving me 10 pounds of crap in a nine pound bag, and I know AO has some smart people.. so, yeah. 19 years old, new black Mazda 3 = cop magnet. I'm going to be commuting to school starting at the end of the month, sixtyish miles a day on fast roads, and it just seems like trouble waiting to happen for me. So I was looking for a bit of help.

Just a question, since I got shouted at the last time I just went ahead and did some stuff In my country to own one of these things is legal but to act on the info is illegal...now I see these for sale all over the states but is the law the same for you as in legal to own but illegal to use?

Its legal to own, yes, Legal to use, also a Yes, BUT if you are pulled over for speeding and the cop sees it (like you have it on your dash) he can confiscate it legally(atleast in NJ)

But back on topic, I hear Cobras are good, I was also told dont go cheap and pay around 180 for a good one.

It depends on the state, whether they are legal to use.

Until just a few days ago, it was legal to buy and use traffic light changers in California. It all depends, you see.

Here it is perfectly legal to own and use one, although I heard cops act like douches if they see it. UNLESS it is a jammer, then it is very illegal. Then the cops will pull you out of the car, call for back up, beat you up and drop a confiscated gun by your hand.

The legality of radar detectors vary from state to state and even from city to city. Jammers are always illegal from my understanding and the effectiveness of detectors varies. Remember that a police officer can still get a reading even if you "detected" his radar when he bounced it off you. They can also right numerous other tickets involving unsafe driving if they cannot get a good reading which are more serious than speeding tickets, at least around here.

Actually, at last check [a couple years ago, so I'm possibly out of date], it was only illegal to jam in VA and DC.

Meh, well it looks like I'm going to buy a detector anyway. So, anybody know where I can get a V1 for like... $50

I can tell you quite honestly those jammers do not work and are a waste of money. By all means buy one and continue to speed though, your local police will thank you.

Police radar works off the doppler effect and is NOT effected by any of these so called "jammers". These devices merely emit white noise or pink noise which is about as uselful as you making a "pssshhhhhhffftttt" sound with your mouth while driving past a cop.

The jammers do not work. That's been proven in ton's of tests.

The best detector I've found is the Passport 8500.

Detectors don't work that well, most radar guns aren’t constantly on. They have a hold button, when they see someone they think is speeding, they release, get your speed, then your detector goes off.
Detectors don't work too well. The only time they really work is when a cop is trying to just slow down traffic and will sit their with his radar gun on with no real plans to give a ticket unless someone is doing something incredibly stupid. When they are really hunting speeders they use the hold button on their gun which turns it off so your detector won't be able to pick it up, they see you coming and if it looks like you're speeding they hit you with the gun, get your speed, then the detector goes off. The only hope you have of the detector working in that situation is if he hits a car right around you first in which case he is probably going to go after the other gun anyway. Also many departments won't let you use a radar gun until you can judge the speed of a car within 5mph. That means he doesn't need a radar gun or the readings to give you the ticket.
