But to argue that there is no correlation between allowed speed and highway safey would be assinine. Equally, the speed on off ramps, school zones, round blind corners, exit ramps , secondary roads... and all others is based on calculation sheets that take into account curves, road wisth, what's to either side of the road, is there a shoulder or not, etc. It IS NOT because of the oil crisis.
Before you bring up statistics about countries with higher National A road speeds, realise that those countries have much more severe enforcement and punishment for road rules and that the average driver in those countries takes driving far more seriously than drivers in North America.
