This will all smooth over in time if you guys are really friends.
Apologize, then get to school work. Why are adults always saying this? Because alot of us have learned how really important it REALLY is the hard way.
If this guy is your friend he will come around. It may take a few months.
Next time though try something like- Hey I am going to this party, if you don't want to go where can I drop you off.
Oh and, since I can't stop underage drinking promise me that you will use a designated driver or call a parent. You might get in trouble calling a parent but you won't end up waking up to a nurse pulling glass out of your forehead like me or not waking up at all.

the key word there was RESPONSIBLE. Drinking and driving is irresposible no matter what age you are.

"You're right, the majority of underage drinkers are responsible enough to participate.

[/sarcasm if you didn't catch it]"

when did I say the majority of minors are responsible enough to drink?

ALL IM SAYING IS THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT NO MATTER HOW OLD YOU ARE IF YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE.

EDIT: Sorry I know im picking over words here like Shartley, but im just defending my beer thats all.

The problem may be something totally unrelated to drinking. Remembering what being a teenager was like, I would say there is the possibility that something might have been bothering him (and probably has been for awhile) if he just snapped like you describe. Now granted, I don't know either one of you but I remember how things used to be. You should talk to him and make sure that what you say is the problem really is. There might be something else going on and again I am only mentioning this because I didn't see where anyone else did.

Talk to him if you guys are as close as you say he will want to talk about it. Don't do it over the phone. Go see him and make sure everything is cool.

It is against the law. What about that don't you understand?

Maybe he hates them because they break the law, and he isnt down with that.

Other than it is in violation of the law and can lead to health issues?

Ok - don't get upset - I did it to, but don't try to justify it - its still wrong and not good for you

hahah back to the "it's bad because its against the law, and its against the law because it's bad"

just because something is against the law doesn't mean it's so bad, sure most things that are against the law are bad, but not all. I'm not saying thats it's not bad for your health, but if you drink in moderation it's not all that bad, besides just about everything is bad for you. So get over it, and have responsible fun.

as for your friend, maybe you guys weren't meant to stay friends. From what you say you hang out with his friends and make an effort and he doesn't make any effort to hang out or get to know your friends. If he is really your freind he will talk to you about it, if not now maybe in a year or so when he is a junior he will see things from your point of view.

Lets step back a bit. Remember slavery, and women voting and such? Just because there is a law for something doesn't make it right.

I read that article that nippinout posted. 20% of 8th graders have been drunk. That's crazy! That is real underage drinking. That is bad. If some 19 year old kid is responsible and wants to drink I don't see the big deal. I drank when I was underage (not 8th grade though! dang that's young). I'll just say the old line 'If your old enough to go get killed in combat you should be able drink some beer'.

I found this line funny. Drink to much and you can't work the equipment.
The probability of sexual intercourse is increased by drinking amounts of alcohol sufficient to impair judgment, but decreased by drinking heavier amounts that result in feelings of nausea, passing out, or mental confusion (16).

On another note. apoligize to your friend.

One more note. I'm gonna brew another batch of beer today!!! yay!

Yes, and while it was legal we shoudl have all beat our wives.

Hell, we celebrate people breaking the law: ie harriet tubman (yes i know the magnitude of these scenarios is very different but the letter of the law is the letter of the law.)

Speeding is against the law, everyone does it and that is a zillion times more dangerous then some kiddies getting wasted as long as they dont drive.

how can we compare voting and such to underage drinking??
a lot of the kids that participate in underage drinking end up ruining their lives COMPLETELY.

sure, you may ruin your life by voting illegally back in the day, but that was for a decent cause.

what have you got to benefit from underage drinking??
The very existence of flamethrowers proves that sometime, somewhere, someone said to themselves. 'You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.
