Soda Vs. Pop

Which do you say, I am from Pittsburgh and I say Soda.....I feel its way better than Pop as a word....But, Im in a battle with a fellow pittsburgher to find out which is more commonly used throughout the land...so Please...pick one

People.. I will explain this one last time, having lived in the north and south. You are all wrong in your generic terms.

Pop - as in a pop top, pop can, and now we have gone to pop bottles that don't pop - but its ok, prebottled carbonated beverages are pop.

Soda - Soda comes from a SODA MACHINE... pretty simple. The machines that dispense non-bottled carbonated liquids are dispensing soda, and thats what it is.

It is pop. This is because the full word is soda-pop. If youre gonna shorten it, might as well be logical and use the shorter part. Also, when is the last time you saw anyone with a sodasicle? Oh thats right, never. When I go get soda, Im getting an orange box of powder to absorb funky smells in my fridge and make my cookies fluffier. Furthermore, it is my government sanctioned opinion that anyone who sees otherwise shall be Nancy Kerriganed in the kneecap on a regular basis until they see fit to correct themselves.

There's a brand name on the bottle for a reason. Just call coke- coke, sierra mist- sierra mist, Dr. pepper- Dr. pepper.
