At least the parents aren't *screwed* up and spend it on something stupid, like a car or parties, or lottery tickets..I know they might need a car or something, but an education is in my opinion, alot more worth it.

Depending on many different things, public schools can cost nearly as much as private schools. The scholarships you initially get from a private school (if you have scholarship worthy stats) almost evens out the cost, and some public schools are getting expensive (and more selective). In the end, it all depends on if you want to be more of a number or more of a person to the college you choose.
If you're capable of getting scholarships to a private university, you're fully capable of doing the same at a public university. It will just be a fractional amount compared to the private school's scholarship, but it's all relative.

I received a $10K scholarship for four years to go to a public college. In total it was in the mid to low 30's I believe without taking out the scholarship. If a private college wanted to do the same deal, they might have given me a $40K scholarship, but in the end it would have still been on the order of $60-80K after the scholarship.

The numbers are all relative. I'm just trying to say if a private school is offering you a decent sum of money, then you're fully capable of receiving the same level of compensation from a public school.

Your parents paid for much of that public college education to begin with by paying their state taxes every year, so you might as well go put it to use. Plus, for undergrad, private college is for the most part a waste of money.

It doesn't matter where you go, it's how much you put into it that ultimately determines how much you get out of it.
Yuppers. If you need the "prestige" of a fancy school to make or break your ability to be successful... doesn't say a whole lot about ya does it?
