I like the new XD's. I have shot Glocks, Berettas, and Colts under "battlefield conditions" and the only model I ever experienced any trouble with a failed ejection (stovepiping) was the Colt 1911! Any model pistol like this will suffer the same fate if it is worn enough.
The short barrels are good for tactical shooting when you are drawing from a holster. In November I had to qualify on the Depart. of Homeland Security pistol course. Pretty much 90% of the course was shooting from a draw. The shorter arrel just adds some speed to your draw. You really don't notice any loss in accuracey at the short pistol ranges.
