So, my argument that all these young people don't make it because of the lack of these relationship characteristics and maturity is backed up by psychological studies. I've got science and data on my side, woot!

                  illustrating a point.

there is evidence available online for any point of view or argument.

The following psychological studies resulted in data that supported the hypothesis that relationships which share certain characteristics are more likely to last. Our relationship shares every single one of the positive characteristics studied in these tests:

Murray, Holmes, and Griffin. (1996a and 1996b follow-up). Study on reciprocity effects in relationships.

Drigotas, Safstrom, and Gentilia. (1999). Study on relationship between commitment and fidelity.

Sprecher. (1999). Study on commitment and relationship length/stability.

So, my argument that all these young people don't make it because of the lack of these relationship characteristics and maturity is backed up by psychological studies. I've got science and data on my side, woot!

No, you don't. Unfortunately the person who is being "judged" is not an impartial observer. As part of the relationship you are not scientifically qualified to judge your committment.

Sorry, none of that is backed by empirical evidence. It isn't real science, simply people charading as scientists.

Yes Lohman, I can rate my own level of comittment. Those studies were conducted as case studies. The experimenters collected information from subjects about their personal feelings towards commitment and reciprocity, and documented how long they stayed with their partner. Because I feel such a strong sense of loyalty and comittment and because I tend to ignore the faults of my significant other, I am exhibiting the same type of behavior as the subjects who had the more succesful, long lasting relationships. Now if I were the kind of person who doesn't like to be tied down, I would feel differently. But, my personality and my gf's personality match almost identically with the personalities of the longer lasting relationships in those studies.

I'm just saying that there are more factors in a succesful relationship than the time period you begin dating in. I mean, there are plenty of people who begin dating in highschool and who have succesful marriages. There are plenty of the opposite too. It all depends on the kind of relationship you have and the partners' personalities.

Why am I continuing this!!?? Lol, I love arguing even though this is annoying the crap out of me. Ok Lohman and everyone else. Let's just agree to disagree. You don't think I'm likely to make it and I think I will. Just let me have my confidence! I love this girl, I'm going to marry her, and that's final!!! Now be happy for me that I've found what a lot of adults can't find! Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!
