My new whip (not that anyone cares)

Not a bad truck for $1000.
2500 Series, sliding window, 5spd, 305, ac (works), trailor hitch, ABS (pulling the fuse for that).
Need a clutch though so I paid $1150 for it.

Because ABS sucks and has almost gotten me into accidents because it kicks on an increases your stopping distance when the wheels were nowhere near locking up.

ABS may not be good in terms of stopping distance but the idea is to help with controlled stopping

On dry pavement where my wheels were nowhere close to locking up it kicked on and sent me into an intersection. That could have been the back of another car, or could have ended with me being t-boned. Later that day I pulled the ABS fuse and solved the problem.

A 98 for 1500? That's either the deal of the year or it needs a motor.

Knowing PyRo's car history, he's an experienced driver that doesn't want/need ABS as a crutch. Just sayin'.

Good find! When did people start calling vehicles whips? Why do they call them whips, and why was I not informed. LOL.

So when are you going to paint it a nice camo color?

I don't know when the started calling them whips but when I hear someone say it I want to shoot them so I figured I'd see if I could dodge bullets.

If it does get painted which it looks like it might need to be I'm thinking about going with somthing close to the hemi orange. Watch for a camo painted CJ5 though, that's on the to do list.

This guy is being a PITA about picking this thing up though. Can't get it until monday because he won't have the title, then can't get it after five during the week because that's when he leaves work where it's stored (guess what I work too), maybie I can get it next weekend.
                    I want my truck now.

Chevy ABS sucks as I have this experience all the time, also if you put larger tires on the chances of the wheel speed sensor malfunctioning are higher. I have a 1995 ext cab half ton 4x4 with a 350 and mine kicks in when braking especially over small bumps. Basically inhibiting your brakes from doing their job without lock up.

Must be a mid 90's thing. Your Chevy ABS is kicking in all the time. Our 3 Fords on the other hand all have the ABS lights on the dash on practically all the time meaning it's not working. Only once has it worked for me.

                        Stupid ABS.

                          a 305 in a 3/4 ton.... weird.
                          its a 91 right?
my dad had one that was a 1/2 ton 2wd with a 350 in it, bare bones truck, no ac or anything, 300k on it easially, odometer quit working in like '94 with 105k on it. he still uses it as a work truck at his work, its all rusty and you can't get in through the drivers door because the cab corners fell through the body mounts. but...... she runs like a top.

It was actually a Grand Cherokee that made me hate ABS so much.

As far as the 305 goes I'm pretty sure that's what it is according to the vin. I actually found a couple 3/4 tons with 4.3s. Most of the 2500s are 350s though, ocassionally you see a diesel the 4.3s and 305s are hard to come by.

This truck was a PITA to find.
I wanted a 5spd because I'm pretty sure these things have an NV4500 which isa very strong tranny, has a PTO provision should I ever want to put anything on there, and the manual transmission I can rebuild for about $150 unless it needs a gear which would be another $40 as opposed to paying two grand for a tranny shop to do an automatic.
Then I wanted the fuel injection because I wanted to get 15-20mpg so I could use it for a daily driver.
I wawnted 4 wheel so I can have a backup plow vehicle.
I also needed at least a 2500 for towing around Jeeps, hauling random stuff, towing Jeeps around, and plowing.
Sorry to the Ford guys but I wanted a Chevy or a Dodge because I've just had bad experiances with Fords
Then I wanted somthing in useable shape to.
Then I only wanted to spend about $1500.
Dodge was out because of the price, and that it's very uncommon to find one with everything I want in it. That put me looking for an 88-93 Chevy 5spd with a 305 or 350. It took me about a month to come up with two, the one I bought and another with a 350, cap, and an extra 100,000 miles. I figured the smaller motor would probably be enough, if it is a real dog I don't think I'd have any problem reselling this then hunting for another truck.

Could be that ABS requires some sort of maintainance too and the fact that my truck has 160,000 miles doesnt help that either. It doesnt kick on all the time, but every so often you get the right surface pavement and the right combination of potholes to set it off. My dad has 35 mud terrains on his 97 k series and his abs clicks on when ever you turn the wheel and touch the brake. wheel speed sensor is my guess? larger tires dont help..

ABS- I wish i had abs. lol
