Your ignorance amazes me... There's plenty of people with powerstrokes putting out those kinds of numbers and much higher. Granted I won't be one of them because this pickup is still going to be my daily driver, it's still got to do farm duty, and I don't have that kind of money to put towards it.

Oh and the $1000 was for a kit including a solid flywheel, pressure plate, ferramic lined clutch and kevlar pilot bushing. Everyone that has this clutch says that the pedal effort to push the clutch in is less than that on a honda car.

FYI - there may be a factory upgrade for those ABS, depending.

        They made hallow flywheels?

I went the opposite way with the pedal resistance. I put a ring in my pressure plate to give it more force so my left leg should get a good workout.

Stock they have what is called a Dual Mass Flywheel or DMFW for short. It's got the springs on the flywheel instead of on the clutch plate to absorb the huge torque load that diesels put out when starting out. After so many miles they get worn out and start shaking and the springs break and other fun stuff like that. Some people weld them up and get by fine with them like that for awhile, but sometimes they'll bust their bellhousings and input shafts from the shock load.

This replaces the DMFW with a Single Mass Flywheel (SMFW) and puts the springs back on the clutch plate like an ordinary clutch on a gasser.

I got an 01 Sonoma about 9 months ago, my first vehicle with ABS. That was the first thing that came to mind when I first encountered the ABS. Maybe people should learn how to drive, then all these fancy gizmos wouldnt be necessary.

Wow, that truck is almost exactly like mine. Mine is a 92 2500, but mine is an extended cab with a 6'bed instead of the 8'. Mine even has the exact same hole in the driver's bucket seat . Mine is from my dad's pistol holster though. As I was looking through your pictures I was thinking "wow, that looks a heck of a lot like my truck...." and then I saw the hole in the seat and I literally LOL'd. That looks pretty nice, Just watch your rocker panels for rust, mine are completely gone, and are getting patched right now. The clutches do go fast, mine should have a new one.... but doesnt need it quite yet. And also watch your rear leaf springs, mine are so far gone that when you put over about 500 pounds in the back the drive shaft rubs against the bottom of the cab, but that maybe just because my dad beat the living crap outta this thing.

Looks to be in good condition though, better than mine, minus the clutch of course.

How long are your clutchs lasting?

All pickups with bench seats are worn there because people can't figure out how to properly get in and out of them without slideing. Why it has a 4in deep hole is beyond me though.

The rockers have a bit of rust under the paint. I changed the bedliner because someone had a nice one infront of there house with "Free Chevy Bedliner" written on it. The guy doesn't use the truck for work and I don't think it's ever actually had anything in it he just got it rhino-lined instead. When I pulled it up I was suprised as their wern't any rust holes to be found. Some surface rust was present though so I put Por-15 down on the bottom of the bed. I'm not sure if I'm going to paint it or not. I'm going to see how it does first if it can handle what I want it for, gets decent gas milage (for a pickup), and the clutch lasts 40,000 miles or better then it will get painted. I'm actually hopeing for better than that for the upgraded clutch. I think it has a lot to do with how it's driven as well you have to treat it like a big truck and be carefull about slipping the clutch.

The springs I'm not sure about. I don't think they ever loaded the truck too badly although the bed seems to have been replaced at some point. If they sag though I'll just find some good leaves somewhere and replace a couple of them, maybie some helper/lift springs. I'll get the drag car look with the lift in the back but not the front.

As for the clutch I actually went to a shop that specializes in clutchs. The guy says the kevlar lasts about four times longer then his regular clutchs. His regular clutchs also probably last about 1.5 times as long as the parts store clutchs because they have a higher copper content. I also went from an 11 to 12in disk. I could also get a stronger pressure plate which he recommended against as it could blow a seal on the clutch slave. If this Kevlar one goes before 40k I'll try the heavier pressure plate.

Regarding the Getrags. I believe it was common practice in the field to always overfill them about a quart to get more oil to the shaft input/output shaft bearings. Do a search on Getrags burning up and I'm sure you'll come across that.

You can get leaf springs rearched and new leafs added at spring shops. Not sure if you have one in your area, but a spring shop will, for a decent price, rearch the springs and add leafs if you want. I had this done on my 4x4 Isuzu Pup diesel and it cost about $90 for both sides to have one leaf added to each along with rearch. It'll haul a bit more firewood now.

Their is a spring shop but their prices are insane. They wanted $400 for front springs for my Wrangler, when I asked for two extra leaves it jumped to $600.. So I ordered them for $75 each from Whitney (I'm sure the spring shops were better quality). Then took apart a leaf pack I have off a truck and grabbed two extra leafs for each side of the Jeep. The u-bolts wern't long enough so I called the spring shop and they wanted $80 for new u-bolts and centering pins for the front. I had them shipped to my house for about $35. So for $185 I had pretty much the same leaves the shop wanted to sell me. Screw them.

If these leaves are bad I'll probably just throw a couple extra leaves in the pack and see how it does. But I don't think this truck really hauled anything heavy so they should be ok.

I think out clutches are lasting between 20k and 40k, and the truck has a bit over 200k on it.

I asked my dad about the ginormous hole in the bucket seat(ours goes down to the frame of the seat), and he said that most of these trucks have that problem. As for the rocker panels, mine were gone from the black trim piece all the way down, we just took a hammer and ripped it all off. But now its all patched up and just needs some bondo to pretty it up.

our plan is to just pick up new leaf springs, and a helper if I need it in the future. Ours is this bad though probably becuase we beat the living crap out of it, but I just thought I'd warn you to keep your eye out for it.

20-40k isn't that bad with the kevlar I should do even better than that. I was expecting a lot worse then that. The wreckers used to get about 8k on a clutch and when they had a plow on a 5spd chevy it was going through a clutch a storm. The guy driving the truck almost got fired until they figured out it was the truck and not the driver. Given that I'm a little nervous about putting a plow on the thing.

Where are you getting new springs from? I looked around a little and the only new ones I could find were lift springs.

Try driving 200 miles and plowing 26 driveways three times each in the course of 20 hours with a 4 wheeler :)
