Report it to you manager. Hopefully he'll do the right thing, which is to turn the PC over to the police to have them investigate it. If he doesn't, find a new job, and when you leave, tell him why.

Don't touch the files. Walk away from the computer and call the cops. No joke. I'm an InfoSec professional. Child Porn is not something to joke about or deal with in any way. You don't want to investigate further. You don't want to do anything more on that machine. Simply walk away and call the cops.

Thanks for contributing to the moral decline of America. When people decide to just let child pornography slide by, then the outlook for our country is indeed poor.

I already told you, you ARE involved. The whole thing is going to have to be laid out in a police report, starting with when YOU found the files. And by leaving it up to someone else you are really exhibiting a low moral standard. Do you even care about the children who are molested and abused to generate that stuff?

You remind me of that incident (I believe in NY) where a woman was killed in the middle of a street. She screamed for help, and plenty of people heard her, but nobody wanted to "be involved." Is that really the type of person you want to be?

i dont know where you get the idea that i let it slide by. all i said is im not gonna deal with it. my boss is going to report it, not me.

did i shrug this off and just do the reformat? no. i let my superior contact the police. how this is like kitty i have no idea.

just because im not being superman and taking everything into my own vigilant hands makes me a morally bad person?

I think it was important that it was reported to the police - your boss going with you or for you is nto a bad idea as long as there is no hiding of any facts about how it was found. Telling your boss and letting him deal with it, as long as he was going to the police ASAP was acceptable I would think. Had he decided not to go to the police at that point you would have had to.

Agreed, thats whats bosses are for. If his boss didnt do anything and than he let it slide than yes, both their morals are lacking. But the boss needs o be informed and if he is a good boss he should report the guy AND protect his employee. As long as there is no lying about who found it, than I think he did the right thing.

really? so because im not old and have kids means i dont care? i dont care what you think i did because i know i did the right thing by leaving the computer alone and letting my boss handle the authorities.
