As it's been said before, more than half the kids wearing this stuff don't even know who Che was, or what the hammer and sickle, USSR, Soviet, or cold war were even about.

Stuffing the body with corn? How the hell does that work.

Not only was there anti-American sentiment back in the day, it was much more vocal. You should read some time. Thats what words are for. People put them in books, then you read them. Words tend to stay written down too, so you can read them and find out about things that previously happened. Funny how that works. If youd done it, you might know about things like the Black Panthers, SNC, communists, hippies, Jane Fonda, the Eisenhower tapes, McCarthy, etc.

Kosmo: I was under the impression that there was a lot of nationalism during that time. Damn Commies! Yea USA! right?

CoolHand:I thought we had quite a few 40-50 yr olds on here, posting regurarly. Step on up ol' timers Maybe im wrong?

Edit: The only thing I can get out of that, Kosmo, is either the dislike of the Vietnam war - which was stirred by the coldwar in some ways, or the Anti-Americanism in other countries all over the world which was increased by the Cold War and Vietnam.

If its the latter, then I do believe that he was talking about Nationalism and Patriotism not Anti-Americanism(which would imply hate by other countries). Im sure a small group in America hated America but I think that for the most part there was a lot of nationalism. Was not the USSR a common enemy that united the USA?

No, I was not there; nor did I do extensive reading...

There was a lot of nationalism back then, just as there is now. The fear of the USSR played a part in it. The biggest reason behind the perception of increased nationalism back then is because during the 40s, 50s, and the bulk of the 60s, everything catered to the middle class white man. That made the middle class white man happy, so it was easier to be nationalistic. If you werent white, or if you were smart enough to realize what was wrong, things were quite different. The media was controlled by happy white people though, so none of that was publicized until the Vietnam war pissed off enough people that the media/government couldnt keep dissent on the dl anymore. They tried though, through the use of everything from blackmail and beatings to murders.
