Playstation 3 owners: IN HERE PLEASE

I'm considering buying a PS3 for 1080p movie playback on my 70" Grand Wega, and for some more traditional games (fighting games, driving games, etc. ).

My question is, do you guys who own the system think it's worth it? I'm going to assume most of you recieved it as a gift or worked hard to buy one with your own money. So do you think it's a satisfying system? Would you recommend it to someone? How's the 1080p playback if you have a set capable.

    TY for your input!

I went halfsies with a buddy.
We dont' play it at all. I don't think it's worth it.
We have the 60 gig version, and I consider it now lost money. The games available for ti are sub par, and we play the wii ALOT more.

    But hell, on a wega....mmmm

Agreed. And with the HD-DVD add-on drive, you get 1080p support regardless.

Personally I would wait until xmas or next spring when the library expands. I just bought a 360 and love it but I am waiting until next spring to invest in a ps3.

I bought it, so far only played a couple games. Im working on setting up the HD portion this weekend when my rents leave. I paid for it myself and the only game I am currently waiting for is GT5! The system istself is pretty unique layout to me, you will be pleased if not by the graphics atleast the user interface in the games.

Some people have had a hell of a time setting up HD with their HDMI setups just as a heads up.

I heard rumors that MS is releasing a 360 soon with the HD-DVD built in AND a Dvi (?) output for true 1080p. I will try to find the linky.
Release date was in the next few months if memory serves me right.....

Until I find the link it's still a rumor though. Dam you guys got pissed off last time I posted something and marked it a rumor.

Zephyr is the "supposed name for the xbox v0.2

It will have native 1080p and hdmi outputs... IF it's not a hoax. MS still calls the presumably leaked pictures etc. "prototypes, never intended for the public" Considering I don't own one, probably never will and am in no way a game enthusiast, I know WAAAY to much about this one. So please read a little for your self and make your own opinion on the Zephyr.
                          linkies below

Ever wonder why Microsoft hasn't released an HDMI cable for the Xbox 360, or whether the AV port was really capable of digital out? Well, here's your answer: we landed pictures of what appears to be the second Xbox 360 -- the Xbox 360 v2, if you will -- codenamed Zephyr. (The original Xbox 360, if you recall, was codenamed Xenon.) The long rumored about and awaited update to the console won't just feature a new, cooler 65nm processor, it's also finally added an HDMI port for full digital 1080p pleasure, as well as a 120GB drive, just what the doctor ordered. The 120GB drive may or may not come bundled with the kit, we don't yet know, just as we also don't yet know how much a Zephyr 360 is going to run (we imagine it'll go for the same price as currently so they can keep up a little on their expanding margin). But our very kind Xbox insider seemed happy to let us know we'd be able to get them "soon."

Oh and one more for Zneaky

The benefits of 1080p resolution are straightforward, but displaying more resolution on screen is a very complicated matter.

Don't forget, nobody can fairly compare the 360 to the PS3 because of one very simple reason: release date. The launch titles of the 360 didn't look all that great...games coming out right now look spectacular. This happens with all systems...the potential of any given system is not realized until several years after its realease (look at FFXII on the PS2 for example). The PS3 will be AWESOME, but it isn't at this very moment. Basically all I'm saying is don't jump to conclusions just yet.

I have the 60 gig model. First of all, I am very happy with it. Granted, the selection of games isn't as big as the 360s...but I could argue that the library of 360 games isn't one to brag about either. And before people say blasphemy...I have a 360 as well. I must admit, Gears of War and Battlefield 2 Modern Combat are the only two games I'm playing right now. But I am waiting on Blue Dragon to come out.

But back on track...one of my reasons for buying a PS3 was for the Blu Ray playback. If that is your main concern, get it. You will not be disappointed with it. As for the games, they will come. Just like it took the 360 to get a few AAA titles released, so will the PS3. Resistance is the only game worth buying at the moment, but March is coming quick which should see some good releases. Resistance online is also a pretty good experience.

As big and heavy as the PS3 maybe, the unit screams quality. The WiFi was very easy to set up. I've also downloaded demos and even browsed the web with it. Granted, it's no replacement for a computer, but it is nice to mess with if you're too lazy to get up off the couch and sit in front of your computer desk.

And since I'm a big gamer geek, I'll share pictures of my babies:

What my babies feed on when they are hungry:

                              Mmmmm...gaming goodness!

Edit: As for the new version of the 360 coming out, don't expect the internal HD DVD drive. If MS did that, they would alienate the original owners because that would essentially allow developers to release games using the HD DVD medium. If that were to happen, it would mean the original owners will need to buy the add on drive. I don't see MS really backing up the HD DVD medium as much as it should be. With their HD downloadable movies they are giving owners another reason not to invest in one.

Also, Mango...if WiFi and multi card readers isn't of your concern, I would suggest getting the 20 gig version. You can upgrade the internal hard drive yourself as stated in the user manual. There are people who've already installed a 120 gig hard drive in theirs. Although, I still think that's overkill but hey, at least you don't have to wait for MS to release an overpriced 120 gig hard drive.
