I'd go for the 360 myself, as long as the new version has HDMI outputs for your TV. It has a much better library of games, and you can hook up the external HD DVD player to it.

Once you play Gears of War, you won't look at the PS3 again

Hrm...I know I do. But I agree, Gears of War definitely puts the pressure on Halo 3 to being more than what it is. I loved Halo but was pretty disappointed with Halo 2. But expect to see lots of cross platform development for both 360 and PS3.

In other 360 related news, MS started to put new DVD drives that are quieter now. So no more jet engines, just smaller propelled ones. I believe the newer drives were found in 360s sold in Nov 06.

HAHA!! Actually, I do! Gaming and movies are my secondary hobby...when I'm not gaming, I'm out doors riding my bike. Now, getting enough sleep? You can feel sorry for me there.

And yeah..Mango has some really NICE toys!!!

My buddy had a 360 and purchased a ps3 60gb which he is now trying to sell. He has a 60" high-def tv and we were expecting great things and were left with speechless with how lowly it performed. When loading the same game on each machine, it was obvious how much slower the PS3 seemed to load and how much longer it took to load up different parts of the game. The typical playstation lag still seems to be in effect. The graphics really didn't wow us the way we expected. They were alright, looked possibly a little more crisp at times then on the 360 but other times the 360 looked nicer and others you couldn't tell the difference.

The Sony brand has let me down a bunch. We even watched a Blue Ray dvd on the ps3 and weren't impressed either. For anyone who doesn't know the story behind the Blue Ray technology, Sony originally released it several years ago. When it hit the market, it was a huge flop.. no one wanted it. The majority of the market uses HD-DVD for that purpose, and it is overwhelmingly the number one choice in the category.

So what does Sony do... incorporates it into the new PS3 to try to force it on the public again. I understand the reasoning.. if they are successful, then they get a royalty on every DVD and DVD player that uses their Blue Ray Technology. Unfortunately, the market has rejected them once and I hope it does again. In my opinion the HD-DVD is great, and it's the way to go, although that's just my 2 cents.

Everyone is entitled to their opinions...I just hope your buddy sells the PS3 fast enough so it can find a place in a loving home.

As for video quality between BR and HD DVD, it really depends on the studio's production of the video. Both use the same blue diode to read off the disk. Both use the same video formats. Only difference between the two are the wavelengths of the blue diode that allows one to have a higher disk capacity.

It's too bad Sony pissed off a lot of people in the past with various products. It's really biting them back in the behind because people are too bitter to really see how good the PS3 is. How satisfied was your friend with his 360 when it first came out? The DVD playback on the 360 is worse than a $35 stand alone player. To play HD DVD, you need to drop down another $200.

People don't realize that the capabilities of the 360 and PS3 are very close. It should really be about the games you want to play. Both consoles are losing exclusives as studios are finding it more profitable to expand their user base. But expect 1st party developers to make exclusives that will entice many gamers.

The HD format war is far from over despite BR's sales lead over HD DVD sales in January. Neither format has sold enough players to break mainstream. However, the PS3 factor is now starting to kick in for the BR camp. If you compare Feb. list of movie releases for both formats, you'll see BR having more titles coming out. If the trend in video sales keep up, studios will find BR more profitable since there's a bigger market for it. That can tip the scales for who will win. Once that happens, you can be sure that studios and electronic makers will push the winning format. Consumers will be more exposed to the newer DVD format and see how much better HD content is over current DVDs. I just don't understand when people say they can't see a difference between DVD and HD movies(probably using SDTVs and cheap cables?). I know I do.

I've been following the PS3/360 and BR/HD DVD topics and forums for a while now. The PS3 will require some time to get their AAA titles to be released and March looks like some will come out for it. The 360 had Gears of War which was a huge seller for it last holiday season. Oblivion(due out in March), even though it's already been released on the 360, will show off what the PS3 can do(as it nears PC quality graphics; quicker load times). As developers spend more time to develop tools and figure out ways to optimize their games, you can expect to see many more titles that will justify the PS3's price. That's true for any video game console.

The thing is, Sony said that they wouldn't be close. Sony hyped up PS3's and Cell's performance to be something that was BEYOND NEXT GEN. So OF COURSE PEOPLE WILL NOT BE SATISFIED WITH THEIR PS3S. Hell, I'm sure a lot of people were pissed about how poorly the PS3 lived up to its hype. They are close, that is the problem. The titles do make or break the game. But since Sony ran a rather bad marketing machine for the PS3, they have pissed customers who don't even want their first party exclusives until a price drop happens.

Marketing is marketing. I can remember clearly when the PS2 first came out. Back then, I was a HUGE Dreamcast fan. So much so that when the PS2 came out with all the hype and killed the momentum the Dreamcast was enjoying I was upset. Why? Because the Dreamcast clearly had better released games than the PS2 during that time. Honestly, I put off buying a PS2 for the longest time. It's just about 2 years ago did I finally buy one. Before that, I was happy with my Xbox. But look at how the PS2 turned out. There's some really great games for it no doubt about that. My only regret now is, I don't have the time of day to try to play through all of them! LOL!

Sony had to go that route because they knew the 360 was already out a year earlier. If you were the head of the marketing department, wouldn't you try to tout your new product as the best of the best? Or would you give people the chance to second guess what you have? You make it sound like Sony is the only one doing such things with their marketing strategies.

Whether it's Sony, MS, or Nintendo...they are after one thing...marketshare and making money. But that's not always a bad thing. If along the way releasing quality games will make them money, then I'm all for it. I just better hurry up and learn more about stock trading so I can buy into Sony while their momentum is still slow. HAHA!

To me the 360 has better games and the graphics due to the developers having a year advantage over the ps3. Now if you ask me in 5 years i think it will be the ps3 that will be on top. Also in my opinion it seems dumb to make your system last for more than 5 years (which the ps3 is suppost to last 10) because technology ups to fast and I think in 5 years MS will come out with something new again. Im still getting a ps3 though but later on when the price drops and when I can afford a really nice tv but right now im happy with my hd moniter hocked up to my 360.
