When I brought my emag to the field one of the kids asked me: "Is that an old-school shocker?"

I had read about this type of thing happening to other people but hadn't prepared a witty response, so I just said, "No. It's an emag."

Two of my co-workers bought tippmann x7s with e-grips. It wasn't too long before they started having problems. Maybe these were just lemons, maybe quality control at tippmann is slipping, I couldn't say. All I know is these guns were giving their owners a bad day. I let them borrow my mags for a couple games. The responses were something like: "Wow, this is a lot better than my gun" and "Drew, your guns are the (i'm not going to activate the swear filter)!!!" One of them told me that I am coming with him to advise him on his next marker purchase.

At my local field (OSG in NH) there's always at least mag or two running around. Sometimes 5 or more peole with 10+ mags. Not huge numbers but enough so that you can get a mag table together. Since I play with a sleeper pneu setup but leave off the grip panels, I tend to get a lot of questions regardless. One thing's for sure... I still get plenty of questions... Now my wife let me build her one... we only have everyone else to work on!

So I was at the field this past Sunday, and had the camo mag (The one from Feb's MOTM contest). Everyone just kept staring, but no one actually asked. I could tell there was confusion. Then, while at the fill station, the guy filling the tank says "Wow, I haven't seen an Angel in a while." It took a minute to register, and realize that he was talking to me. So I said that it was a mag. He was even more confused and said, "Well it says Angel on the Feedneck, and has a vert Frame". I really had no idea what to say, and I certainly was not going to school him in the different markers. Now I will admit, I don't know every marker out there, but I know the basics, and can definitely tell the difference between an Angel and other markers.

But the day gets better. I switched to pump for the second half, so I whip out my CCM S6. I had two people compliment me on my Trilogy Pump, and two others that were dumbfounded that I had to actually pump the marker in order to shoot. Now I should also mention that the two that called it a trilogy were shooting Ions, and were decked out in Red and Blue Dye jerseys (For woodsball) and the two that didn't know what a pump was were newbie's.

Now I have been playing on and off for the last 12 years or so. I took a little bit of a break from 2003-2005. Other than that, I played at least 3-4 times a year. One thing that I know for sure, is that Mags were around when I started, and I am sure they will be around when I finally can't play anymore (50 years from now, hopefully). They will probably be one of the few constants in the sport, as I am seeing that there are less and less constants these days.

Oh, and since my post seems to be off topic somewhat, I was the only mag there that day, at least in open play. There were some private groups, but I didn't see any.

Not the only one in my area, but usually the only one at the field or scenarios. There's a guy in my area with an E-mag, X-mag, Euro CNC, fully brass PPS (I think) pump action, VM68, PGP pistol and some other classics I can't remember right now.

Every time. Those that's played with me before always make positive comments about my 'mag or want to side with me in a game. Afterwards most everyone that saw/heard me play wants to know what it is.

Yes. Most of the times (in scenarios anyway) I'm called out as a squad commander.

Every time. I even offer if they don't ask. The light weight of my Q-loaded, remote setup gets them every time. That, how loud it is when fired and the RT effect has them asking questions.

For sure. If I can get just one to buy a 'mag I've accomplished my goal, its just a bit difficult (and financially unfeasable) for most from here in South-Africa.

              Only Mag owner I know

I live in Utah County UT. I'd heard of mags before, but until last year I never owned one. No one in this area uses them. My friend and I were doing some online research, and after seeing all the positive responses of owners, I bought a Tac-One.

I loooooovvvvveeee it. I've used Cocker's, Tippman's, etc... but nothing got me hooked like my Tac One. Funny thing is everyone in my area always asks me at least 2 times what kind of gun I use. Most newb's will smile and nod like they know what I'm talking about when I tell them, when it's obvious they've never heard of anything but Ion's, tippman's, spyders, and ego's.

I'm still waiting to get my ULE trigger kit to really show them what mechanical can do, but already even the Angel owner's are impressed. Currently I'm the only automag shooter, but honestly I know at least 2 guys who are just saving the funds to get one.

Over by me the field I prefer rents out Automags, so even if people don't know what they are they still have seen them before at least once.
I got more questions about the warp than anything else.

Haven't been to the local FEC field I used to frequent with my 'mags yet, I'm hoping the first time I re-visit this season will be with a 2009 Micro.

It has the newbies, youngin's, college dopes, birthday-partiers, the occasional speedball team, and the oh-so unavoidable AGG speedball upped ION kids/guys.
The first thing I'm going to do is go to the range where a bunch of people shooting off e-guns in full auto at nothing in paticular are, shoot one over the chrono, let off a decent string of 20bps, sock it up, leave the range, and go back to my bag to top off the hopper.

My goal is to see how many people will follow me out and how many I can get to play with me right away.

As far as I know the only other mag enthusiest in my area is GRimm, he literally used to live blocks from my house but he moved... to like 25minutes away so whatever, he's still in the area.

there are quite a few in my area that i see on and off, maybe cause i'm from AGD's home state. i have gotten a few of the shocker comments with my e-mag and my tac-one. i have just done the "it's an automag" response to the shocker comment. i have also had people after they heard what it was say "i heard those were unreliable". i was then watching, they spent more time tinkering then i did.

i have had people come up to me and say nice e-mag, don't see to many of them around anymore, they are old. to me, it still rocks and that's all i need. i still love the fact that the e-mag is the only gun that can go from mech to electronic and totally rule in both modes. i just need to get a new reg/tank, the old armageddon i have on there is way to heavy.

i find that people will start watching me shoot instead of playing the game, someone will be shooting at us and they ae more worried about what marker im using

I am not the only one shooting a mag at one of the local fields, and some of the owners of are mag lovers :) So no problem there.

But the other local field I go to has no idea what a mag is :) I usually play woodsbal there with the members on members night. I let them shoot it a bit and test it out. Usually they love it untill I tell them the price.. haha
But I said the Tac-One is the marker to get after starting off with a tippmann. :)

                      Spreading the mag love :)

Like Sundown said - there are two paintball fields I go to. One is a woodsball-only field which has a fair amount of Mag users, while the other field has a speedball field and several tactical woodsball fields where Tippmanns and Ions are the most common markers you'll see.

I always like it when the field owner will tell people "you see this here? THIS is a quality marker that never breaks down"

ANd yeah, like Sundown said, most people are turned off by the price, especially when they realize it's a mech marker. But once they try it, most are hooked

I dont have any mags anymore, but I can't begin to count the number of times people asked if I had eyes on it, what kinda shocker or ion body was it, and all manner of strange questions. Im really amazed at how much stigma still follows the mags from their early days. I thin the reason for a rise in popularity migth be all the young guns in the sport not knowing anything about the mag in the past.

Best feeling ever was crawling up a trench, yelling "what do ya got", having 2 guys in front tell me there were three guys in the sandbag bunker right in front of us holding them down. Without stopping, I crawled to the front, popped up, ripped a string of about 20 accross 2 of the shooters guns and hoppers and shot the last guy in the back of the shoulder as he scrambled for more cover. All I head from my bunker companions was " Oh my F'n god..."

I live in Houston, Tx and I know there are several maggers in this area, but it never fails that most times Me and a team mate are the only 2 mags on the field. Just recently converted another team mate away from his breaking down Ion. Building him and Xvalved Mag now.

I usually get either asked what it is, or i just get stares as they try to figure it out.

Well lets be honest Al. Living anywhere in Florida its hard to be the only Mag shooter. They are all over the state. I havent been to a field that I was the only Magger in many years. Vikings are much more obscure.
