      More manufacturers call them markers.

More retail stores call them markers.

More people just dont give a damn.

The reason I got mad at is is because you called me wronge, then proved what I said in my post previous to yours, and, because you kept making the same points over and over.

      -Peace.

I understand... I am sorry for upsetting you. Please remember that I was not only replying to you.

I hope you are not mad any more. Upsetting you was not my intent.

Well guys, I too asked my friend Webster and he said a gun is a a piece of ordnance usually with high muzzle velocity and comparatively flat trajectory or a device that throws a projectile. He also said a marker is something used for marking. Well let's see. When I play a person could be out if several people saw a HIT and the ball didn't break, or mark, the person.

So I guess you are saying that paintball guns don't HIT targets. I got confused there. Political correctness my ***. It's a gun. It's like saying you can't swear. Well why not. What happened to freedom of speech? And for those of you who do say "marker" for "political correctness" I ask you this:

Do you say "***got" or "***" or "*****"? Or do you use the politcal correct term Homosexual?

Do you say "Mentally Handicapped"? Or "retarded"?

You can't really say you say "Marker" for political correctness unless you always say things for political correctness. On another note: When did paintball have to do with politics?

I'm a substitute teacher in a small(college)town (hence my handle, doh). I always try to say marker. I certainly don't talk about paintball at school, but you can imagine the kind of reaction I might get if someone's mother/father/sister/etc. were to overhear me talking about how fast my new "gun" was at the local hobby shop.

It seems that we all recognize that marker might be a better term to use with folks that know very little about the sport. Considering that's probably the vast majority of the population maybe we should all make a real effort to consistently refer to our markers as "Marker". By taking the objectionable term out of the vocabulary maybe more people's natural curiosity would take over and we'd have more people to play with.

I haven't read this thread all the way to the end. If someone has already said this then I couldn't agree with you more.

                    #1 I call it a gun.

                    #2 It is a gun.

#3 I don't care what you call it, marker doesn't bother me a bit.

                    #4 It's not a marker,it's a gun that shoots marking projectiles.

Hi Shartley. I'm not sure why I spent the time but you made me curious about the industry standard so this is what I found out.It got pretty interesting....

                    Of 60 "manufacturers" only,

                    37 - guns
                    17 - markers
6 - basically refuse to say

Here's the funny part,8 of the "marker" companys call it a marker at first and then call it a gun in the description! So those got put in the gun tally.

I found all sorts of slips by the "marker" people, here's a few...

"in gun" "on gun" "other guns" "our gun line" "paintgun" "most anticipated guns" "in the gun" "gun parts" "for your gun" "on your gun"

And I hate to point out the obvious but it is Air "GUN" Designs, and they also are guilty of calling them guns in a few places in the catalog, but I'm sure they slipped because they do intend to call it a marker, however they got added to the gun tally also mostly because Tom calls them guns, sorry.
I do give you credit, you have been very diligent in your use of marker over gun, well done and Kudos.

As for as Retaillers,it's a landslide....
                    64 - Gun
                    16 - Marker
                    FYI, Gun/Marker - 18

Anyways, that was just for fun,no flame,no intended bad feelings.

There were 8 of the both, but I put them as gun because they used gun as there description of their marker.

I put AGD in there mostly for fun that's way I mentioned it.(and maybe to rub it in.LOL)

I could have gaven all the names but man that's alot of typing!I can't hardly believe I went to each one.But if it helps,I started at PBreview and went to marker reviews and started going down the list of Manufactures.I excluded retailler w/ thier own branded models and put them w/ the retaillers.I then went to whatever was left that I could find myself.
I can tell you this, and you might be suprised. Some of the biggest "marker" companys were B.E. and Kingman. And many of the others were also low end manufactures.

                        Anyways,
I honestly was unbiased in this,I really wasn't sure which way it would go.It was fairly close early on and then it snowballed a little.I was also suprised to see a company list "markers" and then you click on a model and it says something like this "gun" ____ or "we've been manufacturing guns for ___".That's way I started to look a little deeper. In some company I do sometimes use "marker",I just don't really think it's a big deal.Everyone knows in paintball you shoot at each other and there will be those against that no matter what you call it.

                        And,
Ive been around here long enough to know you don't question the mighty Shartley with out the goods to back it up.

You don't really want ALL the names do you?

If the Tom calls it a gun,It's a gun baby. He would never say anything that he hasn't tested fully and have the facts to back it up.
