    Paintball pants vs. BDUs

    OK.

So I was thinking while driving around today.. What's the advantage to something like paintball pants, which I notice are generally $75+.... Honeestly, I would just wear a pair of Black BDUs... IF they are good enough for the soldiers proteting our Freedom, why not for paintball. Obviously, they are a bit heavier but you can get the warm weather version.

I dunno. Just wondering what the appeal was, aside from being 'wh0red' out in all Dye or JT gear..

cause bdu's dont have those cool pads! and the sublimated logos...

I'd consider getting a pair of black ones...

I'm liking DYE less and less since everyone and their mother has DYE everything...

Only problem is, the only place around here to buy BDU's, their just as expensive as some of the paintball pants you find.

(on a similar note, who can justify spending $130+ on a pair of paintball pants? COUGH*C4*COUGH)

Exactly. I can get a pair of black warm weather BDUs at the local Army/Navy Store for under $40 bucks (last time I checked).

          Lets see.

Paintball pants for 120 bucks.... OR 4 pairs of BDUs for 120 bux.

BDUs ought to run you 25-40 bucks. I bought mine for 25 or so. Just buy yourself a decent set of pads and you'll be set. My BDUs are even baggy enough to be comfy. Or you could get yourself Nexed pants at PBgear for 65 bucks or so. But in all honesty, there is no reason why to do so or spend so much money on that stuff.

          BDUs all the way!
          I wish I wasn't broke....

I own both, and prefer the speedball pants.

One big reason for my preference is that the speedball pants are made to hold stuff you need... most noticeably, a pocket in the exact right place on your leg, and the exact right size for holding a squeegie. I get frustrated with BDUs when I'm trying to remove or put in a squeegie, it gets kind of awkward.

Paintball pants are generally more comfortable, and are generally more ventilated too. They also promote bounces better. Many of them have tougher knees on them, so they'll last longer too.

It's mostly preference. But I certainly prefer my 02 Dye pants over my BDUs unless I really need to blend in with my surroundings.

Lets see, the dozen or so bounces I took of my knee yesterday playing...

So yeh, there is a reason besides the Dye name that I wear Dye pants, though I will admit, if they didnt say Dye on them, they probably wouldn't be legal

My Son wears Redz pants, but I wear BDU pants. I am going to get black, urban, and blue camo to go along with my standard green camo ones now. And I can get them all for about $25 each. Cost effective? YOU BET!

I've torn BDU's from the knee to the crotch sliding into bunkers and such. They also don't have pads in the knees.

It was either keep buying new BDU's and wear kneepads that keep sliding around or spend the $80 for pb pants with kneepads built in.

I like roller hockey pants, actually, for filming and speedball. If I'm playing in the woods, gimme something that will hold up to it AND will give me a tool I can use. Camo is useful in the woods. I use it.

The paintball specific stuff is nice tho, I like having a squeegie pocket or a pod pocket. But it's really useless stuff when you're playing stock class, nobody has EVER made a better pocket than the BDU's for holding 10 round tubes.

BDUs, all the way. I'm in the military and get the stuff for free. How could I turn it down? And it makes it hard for other people to see you. Sometimes I wear kneepads, but that's seldom.

As far as the padding , just go to your local sporting goods store and buy a good pair of (baseball) slider shorts.Work really well and also cost less than paintball specific gear.
Everything that has to do with paintball costs like two or more times what it should , its rediculous.
