The Ion is cheap and has eveyrthing you could want in a marker. Small, light, fast, break beam eyes, and popularity.

yakitori - good argument, but my opinion still stands. an ion with a few upgrades is comparable to a stock freestyle or many other electros, both in features and price. the ion will actually cost more if you buy a new body, to make it look as good as any of the other guns.

freestyles are still 450 bucks for an 04 gen 1 or gen 2. That is a stock one at best. And you arent going to put a feedneck, trigger, grips, or a barrel on that? That is still 200 bucks more than an Ion and the performance difference is not huge.

CP one peice = 35
CP trigger (not needed) = 35
feedneck (no needed) = 30

Thats still less than 400 bucks. And there are problems w/ the 04 gen 1 freestyles. So bad that the resale dropped 300+ bucks in less than a year. Not to mention that you are still probably going to put another 100 in ups on the freestyle. And the freestyle is prolly used, the Ion is new.

the freestyle was used but almost new, it was a backup used once or twice. and its a gen 2 w/ 05 parts. and yeah im replacing the feedneck, but thats just cause i already sanded my halo to fit my mag, the stock feedneck works perfectly with an unsanded halo. i love the stock trigger, the stock grips are fine but im making my own to replace em anyway (http://www.automags.org/forums/showthread.php?t=176035). and the barrel on the ion will need to be replaced too.

the ion will need more upgrades than a new freestyle will, and after the upgrades it will not be much cheaper than a freestyle would have been. if you buy a good looking body for it and a new reg, the ion will cost more than a freestyle. and personally the looks, plus the fact that i dont exactly trust the quality of SP's guns, makes the extra money more than worth it. i know there are plenty of people that are SP fans, but it still seems to me like more people would see through the whole craze and realize that there are equitable guns out there for around the same price.

also keep in mind there are other electros out there for even less than a freestyle. electro cockers you can find for around $300 if you look hard enough, although they are used. then there are B2K4s and BKOs that you can find new for even less than an ion. ive never used one personally, but considering the quality of my freestyle i would expect them to be equal to or better than an ion.

Okay I am still not understanding why you need to upgrade the Ion. I have had one for a couple months & the only thing I had to change was the funky asa adapter because I'm ham fisted ( wasnt compfy). The feedneck works great with my rico & revy. the qev upgrade might be cool but not required as is the trigger. Personally I feel that the ion is so popular due to the value of it. Good performance with a reasonable cost.

I am kind of interested in seeing what is going to happen in about a year when all the parts in them start going bad like the solenoid and stuff and seeing how everyone reacts to them at that time. I mean come on. The stores are paying 200.00 for the markers and selling them for 300.00. DO you actually think that the solenoid in them is going to last for ever? No it is going to go bad and then all the bad mouthing will start and there sales will drop off and the ION will be replaced with a different 300.00 marker. It is all a fad. He got one so I want one thing.

AGD is broke, they can only afford to keep the lights on in the building. I bet they don't even turn a nominal profit. I bet the new owner has another primary job and AGD is his toy.
