    Just a thought.... (propane)

    2-4 years from now:

If propane is the future for paintball.... Would propane 12 grams come about?

I'm sure it would last a game at least. You'd finally be able to rid the tank that weighs twice as much as the gun itself does.

Does anyone here think the sport could go this way?

they already exist in small torches

(actually pretty hard to distinquish between them)

doing a really really bad ratio in my head, if 16 ounce propane is to 16 ounce co2 as 12

gram propane is to 12 gram propane then you should get out about 900 shots?

      lets do some math.
tipmann says 50,000 shots off 16 oz of propane

      16 oz in grams = 453.59 grams

      50 000 / 453.59 = 110.231707 per gram of propane
      110.231707 * 12 = 1 322.78048

So to my caculations you would get ~1300 shots off a 12 gram

So yeah.. as long as you can shoot at the same speeds and consitency of compressed air, I definatly see propane being a good choice in the future. And i'm sure with some more R&D tippmann will release a semi auto version.. then an electro version.. then we'll see other companies getting into it.

I'll put 50$ on first propane electo in 4 years.

Dont forget, that is with a pump. Ball park figure you gotta say that with a high ROF semi would be in the 20k range.

        Which would still be incredible.

...but all LP is injected with a chemical that does smell so that you can detect leaks.

This definatly has the potential to blast way off. I know a few people involved in the business level who are holding off from upgrading their air stations as they well may become obsolete, and quickly.

The biggest problem I see is the loss of a source of highly profitable income that is CO2 and HPA fills for fields and store owners.

I do not understand how tippmann says they are going to get 50000 shots per propane. It just isn't reasonable. To achive a velocity of 300 fps with a .68"x14" barrel the chamber would have to be .8 of that size which is 7.62 square inches. For correct ignition a mix of 4.03% fuel to air is requiered. This means that there must be .33 square inches of propane in the chamber. This is the part I don't know. If someone knew how much propane at room temp. under normal atmospheric pressure took up .33 of an inch then we could find out how many shots we could get from 16oz of propane.

Oh and paintballfreak, no. Just no. You use the disposable propane tanks located in either the camping section of a major store or in the brass pipe/welding section of a hardware store.

I thought you all would automatically assume this.

So you might get 400+ shots/12 gram with a semi auto gun.

                    Absolutely perfect for front players....

Here's some food for thought.... air fills are a source of revenue for both field and store owners. If players will be able to power their markers for thousands of shots for next to nothing, then why would the industry be willing to change to propane?

Manufactures would make the change to make money. There's no downside to the change for them at all.

Stores and fields would just have to suck it up. My field gives free fills so that would actually benefit em.
