What are some quality woods that are light with hardly with little or no patterns? All I have is Hickory wood in mind.

I love the dark wood. PM me a general price of what the grips you have in the picture would cost, and I'll let you know if I would buy a set or not.

Rav.Eddie, you can never go wrong with Oak. White or red. Also water Oak usually has little or no pattern. And the great thing about wood is if it is too light, then stain it a darker color. Hickory is a good choice. Hard and light colored.

As for a price list.........like I said before, the wood is the unknown part of the cost. I am still working on getting set up to do this. Havent had the wood tools out in a long time. So, I really dont know just yet. I think that I am going to get some samples done in various woods, Walnut, Cocoabolo, ect. And just see how this is going to run out. Give me a little time to get set up.
WOW, sigs. Havent seen these in a while here on AO.

Any chance of doing checkering? I'd love to have a similar feel to my 1911. Price is not a huge factor for me if the quality is good.

            Thanks,
            Karl

K Wolf, when I decided to post this thread, I knew that this subject would come up. Checkering is beyond my skills. There is a gun stock maker here in town, I just havent gotten out to talk to him yet. I will get a price on a per set basis. I will tell you this, I wont charge more than it costs to have it done. Maybe a buck for drop'in them off and picking them up. And, it will add to the turn around time for the panels. I would have no control over this part.

I like the looks of them and I like the idea of another type of grip other than the stock grips, but I would honestly like to have a set in a black finish (like ebony or something dark to go with my all black Emag) with wraparounds for the fingers. Think of it like the Smart Parts wood grips they used to have where the grips wrap around the frame and has the finger grooves.

Cool. I'm interested. I'll have to do some thonking about which wood to choose. I'll prolly flip a coin between cocoabolo and kingwood.

Walrus, Black I can do. Ebony can be done, and there is more than one kind of Ebony. The finger groove grips are not something that I am going to be able to do right now. There is more involved to that than you think. I am not/will not be set up to do that right away. But, it is something that I will think about.

I am going to do this. Please give me time to get set up. Will take about a week to get things in place, i.e. arranging things in the garage so I can move, getting some wood stock up, getting another sander, making a few "professional samples". I will post a thread in the Dealer forum when I am ready to make these. But, I will keep checking this thread, just to see what you guys are interested in.

                        C. Blue, I got it off of Ebay in the woodworking section. They sell small pieces of wood for people to make knife and gun handles of. Check the link that I posted up above. Like I said before, the actual wood is darker than shown in the pic. I just aint a picture taker

Interest? Yup - depends on your pricing. I'm also the kinda guy to wait to see a couple examples before buying... Though your first set look awesome.

                              gettin a woody

                              As far as wood colors?

What can you do for blood red and black or white and black?

Any idea what a CO2 laser would do to the wood?

                              Thanks

Still working on price. Trying to price it fairly, for you guys and for me.

As far as wood colors go, there is a wood called "Bloodwood", then for black, there is Ebony, and for white, there is Holly. And, for the Laser, I have no idea. Really depends on the power of it.
