AO: We are back from the dead... again! After an 18 day outage, we are finally alive and well. Who knew how complicated updating software/databases from 2008 would be. I still have alot of tweaks to make, but my main goal was getting everything patched and updated to 2026.
Vbulletin 6 has changed alot since 2008 so we will have a ton of new features to dig into.
the rest of the parts should arrive tomorrow. I'm making a 20 inch A2 style rifle.

i have a flat to upper with a standard BCG, A2 stock and hand guards, and detachable carry handle. i plan on getting a national match trigger group and sights to replace the standard ones. I'm making this to get good with irons, and i already have a scoped rifle in .30-06 that shoots sub-moa, so im not really interested in optics right now. i want to keep it as close to a service rifle as i can, and i don't intend to hang crap all over it like everyone on the Internet seems compelled to do. now all i need before the elections is my suppressor and ill be set. unfortunatley i have to make some money first!

About 2 years ago (wow, really, its been that long?) I set out to machine my own AR lower from a 0% forging. I set up a little page on my website tracing the whole process: http://www.warpedairsmithing.com/arblog/main.asp
I did finish the rifle, but never finished the webpage as I just got sidetracked. I should probably go back through and read it all so I don't forget how it all happened - I'm thinking about doing another. It shoots very well though!
Post some pics when you get more parts and goodies for it.
thats really cool that you machined your own receiver. i wish i had some tooling like that to mess around with. you register it with the ATF? how did you go about doing that?

should have to register it, its not a pistol

The way the ATF states it, if you produce a firearm by way of your own means and its only for your own personal use, not for sale, it does not have to be registered. However, if you make a firearm, and then sell it to someone for profit, you have just become a manufacturer and must get a license for that type of business and as well register all of the firearms produced.
No... you can make one and sell one. Just cannot make a habit out of it or you ARE manufacturing. But its all a grey areas really. If you do eventually sell one that you made the receiver for... you do have to mark it with your name and address. There are some interpretive letters from the ATF on this that you should read. I have made a few but not intended to sell nor have sold. Mostly AK receivers. A built a few AK's.
While I am here for a visit why don't I post you some pictures of some of the Collectible stuff related to guns I have aquired over the last few years? Some gun themes to get your interest up... These are some artsy stuff I did a few weeks back with some military related guns and equipment....
Chino Russo stuff... (AK and SKS)
USA WWII theme... (M1 Garand and M1 Carbine)
one I will title "Desert Sand" (M1A/M14). I will dedicate this one Army (Dave) and to all the other Boys and Girls fighting for us in the Deserts. Salute!
And one for good old John Browning (1911A1 and F&S fighting knife)
Enjoy... Build on and protect the 2nd amendment. VOTE!
awesome, great to have another AR lover here. my bushmaster is almost complete. Just waiting for little things here and there. I'll post a pic when its done. Has anyone shot the Alexander Arms .50 beowulf yet. I'm really mulling on getting the upgrade kit for my AR.
i actually met spike, and he sold me the lower for $100. as we were talking i found out he grew up in the town i live in and used to work for Disney. anyhow, he showed me a dedicated .22 upper, which was really cool, except the only one he had was short barreled so id have to SBR my lower before i could use it, and im low on money as it is...
