I have a bad habit of building AR's. I have 4 I've built from ground up. My latest is a 9mm AR that uses Sten mags. Definatley my funnest AR.
I have a stripped Spikes lower that I haven't decided what to do with it yet.

Delton has Good quality and Great Prices.
Been awhile since I've priced these out but I think you can build a basic AR15 for ~$600.
Stripped Lower ($100)
Buy the upper assembly as a complete kit from Delton. The ease is worth the small extra cost: Complete Upper ($400-$500)
---> Get a Flattop with M4 cuts. Chrome lining is nice but not necessary. Get 1:7 (preferred) or 1:9 rifling.

Then all you need is a detachable carry handle, rear BUIS, or optic. ($50-$1000 depending on what you want to do)

My recommendation is actually a pistol. If you wanna shoot alot - just stick with a 9mm.
It's much heaper than 5.56mm ($330/case vs. $160/case).
You get a Glock and a handful of mags for $500. There's more practicality in life for a pistol unless SHTF... then you'd want a rifle.
The nice thing about building a rifle is that you can spread the cost out over more time - buying one piece at a time.
You could even put together a pistol caliber AR-15 if you like.
Whatever you get... I'll have to build you a silencer. You can be my customer base.
