25 was a high pitch, yes I know, but its only a number, the piont is, we all want to support the sight, say. 10 dollars each, we have 54 voters so far of the 8 who said no, it was most likely due to price

Luke, avatar, sig and larger pm box are perks yes, but were supporting ao and we know damn well the server is crap, try logging in and the server is down, or you can't post, then it won't matter what ao is like, since we can't acess it

I've been a member here for 5 years and id LOVE to bring some life to ao, yes I'm guilty or being awol, but low traffic was a key reason for leaving, everyone was irritated with server issues among other things

But we can bring her back, we have the tools, we can rebuilt it

I don't see how having paying members would reduce the number of guests? Care to elaborate?

Rudz isn't talking about a pay to play website, just a way to upgrade the website and the servers it is on with some form of reciprocity for those people. Yes, there are many people who are in the queue to join, but couldn't that be smoothed out with upgraded programming?

I guess I'm having trouble following his first post, he keeps editing it. I could have sworn he wanted to turn AO into a pay site. Perhaps I missed that the first go around.

I belonged to bikernet as a paying member for a few years and having access to member only stuff was over rated. The free access stuff on bikernet was of more value than the member only stuff. So are you saying that as a paying member on AO you would access the site on a private server rather than the status quo? (I guess I'm just not getting it)

If you think he is tough to follow typing, try speaking with him

I think the point was not to turn it into a pay-only site, but adding a supporting member type feature similarly found on other forums. In return for your small contribution you would get some perks.

Hey I understand what I'm saying, lol

All I edited was the price

We pay X amount to be " supporting members" with the money AO can get better server packages and updated software and help cover cost of running the site

In return the " supporting members" get larger PM box, a sig, possibly and avatar and acess to a " members only" section

OK, I get where your going with it, so whats the cost of a new server? Why not just take donations for an up grade? (Just askin )

A "Donate" button is always a good idea.

Because this way people will get a small benefit for their donation.

Why is AO the only forum I'm a part of that says no to avatars and sigs?

I'd be down with a Donate button too.

Honestly I don't understand the huge draw of Avatars and Sigs.

Yes they are a form of expression, but they make the page slower to load, and also they stretch out posts making them harder to read.

I like not having them here.

Yes, I realize I could just turn them off, and I did that in the past, but then people were insistent about putting useful information in there too, and demanding that I find it there (links to sales, feedback, yatta yatta.)
