    Holds the record?

NO matter what car you have there's always a faster car out there.... FACT.

As for right now though, it's a mustang that holds the record on the 1/4 mile
Actually.. If you bought a Vette (45,000).. and then bought a Stang GT (22,000), and Subtracted the price of the Mustang from the Vette (45,000-22,000=23,000), then took the money you saved (23,000 in this case) and put it in modifications into the stang, the Stang would eat a stock Vette alive... It would be quite ugly.. Actually, in that case, if you took a Civic Si and dropped 23,000 into it.. IT would eat a stock vette alive also... but that is a vice-versa comparison also..

As far as a Vette so fast that a Mustang can't touch it.. Hehe.. You aught to check out the Twin Turbo'd Zo-6 Vette... I've yet to see any "stock form" of a stang come anywhere close to keeping up with it.. But, i'm sure there's a stang built out there that will keep up with it..

Yes, there's always a faster car.. you are right there.. So i guess I agree with you on most points.. but one question..

Record in the 1/4th? What record is that? And what group of cars? There is no 1 car that holds a record... Is it NA? AA? What?

its true that there is always a faster car but take into consideration i only paid 5k wich in the scenarios that have been played out here leaves me with over 20k to play with i could build a real fire breathing monster with that kind of cash.instead i dumped about 500 bucks into it mostly on cosmetics but i did add an msd ignition, edelbrock performer intake, holley 650,and a k&n filter.ill be installing a free flowing exhaust this weekend.so far the only thing that has been able to beat it is a freind of mines pro-street camaro and he'll probably always beat it becouse im not going to go that crazy with her.oh and did i mention the 79 vette is a rolling peice of art.something no honda or newer mustangs will ever be.cant beat the prestige of a vette

Yeah, that's why it's so fun to smoke vettes.
You got a 79 vette for 5K? What body style was that year? the stingray? What's the cubes on that vette?

so let me get this straigh. You paid 5000$ US for a 1979 Corvette. And bought msd ignition, edelbrock performer intake, holley 650,and a k&n filter for 500$ so right now you have 5000$ for the second fastes car in you're neighbor hood?

Where do you live that this is possible?

People don't buy corvettes to "trick out" (unless your last name is Callaway). People buy them because they are the fastest production cars available (within a reasonable price range). What type of person owns a Corvette? Middleaged men with nothing to really prove, they only own the car because it makes them feel younger. What type of person owns a Mustang? Two answers, A, a middle aged man who couldn't afford a vette, or b, a younger guy trying to race the older guys with vettes. Trust me, I know. On more than one occaisson while riding with my pops in his ZR-1, we've pulled up to a stop light and some punk kid in an older Mustang with some annoying flow master exaust pulls up next to us and starts rev his engine. When the light turns green the kid barely squeels his tires and takes off, where as we move along at the speed limit. Of course, the kid imediatley goes home and posts somewhere on the internet that he smoked a vette. Gimma a break! It's pathetic. Hell, if I could think of a whole bunch of cars that I could buy really cheap and customize that would not only blow away anything you corvette and mustang owners could produce, but also cost 1/10 the price. So the fact of the matter is, there is no definitive answer to this debate. Who cares what emblem your car displays, as long as it's fast.

Oh, I'd like to see where you dug up the mustang has the fastest quarter mile time. Last time I checked super cars.com the mustang didn't make the top 40.......

As I left the OTHER heated discussion about cars...It comes down to testosterone and somewhat of an inferiority complex IMO. "My car is better than yours..." My car has more..." Quite similar to the silly Mags/Cockers/Angels debate that often goes on here...
Heres where I left the other threads...

How about buying a '69 Stingray Corvette for 10000 and use the extra 30000 in an engine. This engine would smoke most anything anywhere on any street and in most car tracks. Of course you won't be able to drive it a mile without running out of gas.

You can't compare ANY two cars because you can buy both at very different prices and put very different engines in and put very different body modifications it faster. I'm a Chevy guy, and I've found that Ford's aren't as fast, but they are a damn tough motor. They don't break down, but it's a ***** trying to fix them. You have to have every specification of your car to get a new part.

Gotta love vet owners.... funnest ppl in the world.
                    You know...?
Oh, I'm not shure the pricetag on a vette is "reasonable" but maybe I'm one of those poor ppl huh?
Can calling mustang owner pathetic is VERY close to a flame
Cars.com has no information on tack times for racing oganizations.

The Mustang with the 1/4 miles I was talking about is a "Street leagal" car. Full interior etc. and the car runs the track ( I belive a total of 30 miles, correct me if I'm wrong ) and then races. They don't even get to raise the hood on the car between laps and race. So there's no Icing the intace or other cheat stuff going on.

On the other hand I have to mension that this was done in July of this year. And seeing that's it's now almost 6 months old there may well be a faster car now.

The reason mustangs barley break their tires loose,OR "squeel them" as you'd say is.... THEY ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO BREAK THE TIRES LOOSE. Anyone who has taken a car to the local drag strip will tell you, trackion is one of the key factors in running a good race. Breaking the tires loose is not a good thing. You can have 10000 horses under you're hood, if you can't plant them then you're going to loose.

Bye the way, maybe that "punk kid" was looking for a challange after eating everything fast on the block? Maybe he was going to see just how fast he could run? Maybe he would have beat you're dad's corvette and maybe he would have lost? But he would have probably at least given a thumbs up reguardless of the outcome of the race.

I raced a Harley last night. Stupid? NO it was for fun, I knew I had NO chance, but he smiled and I smiled and we took off. Of course there was some thunbs up after the race.

If you have something to prove, then by all means prove it. But I'll tell you this, Mustang owners are by no means Punk kids, snobs or anything other then friendly motorist with a need for some seat to the pants.

Try the thumbs up sometime. You'll find out that we Mustang owners aren't all out to get you Vette ppl.

Oh hey, has anyone seen or heard of Carrol Shelby's newest production vehicle? Powered with a Buick motor! Sounds like neither Ford or GM will be putting Shelby badges on any of their cars.

Yeah, saying mustang owners and/or mustangs are pathetic is pretty damn stupid.

But it's kinda funny to hear this. A Buick motor huh? Do you know who makes Buick? GM does.

Nope didn't. Buick has been a nobody in my books for a while. Didn't know they made something so decent that Shelby would get them put in his new car!!!

cool it heat. I used the term punk kid far too loosely. Yah see, most people are not accomplished drag racers. I don't know about your area, but around here spinning tire is all the rage; hasn't it always been? The point is, I don't care. I thought I closed my last post in a manner that would not encourage anyone coming back saying "oh yeah well.....". SO allow to say this once again. I do not care what you drive, who it's made by, how much you paid for it, and what type of person you are; if it's fast I'll respect it. I know how much work goes into a stock car in order to enhance it's performance (or in some cases how little), the determination and effort alone are worth more than any time slip or victory.

remember the Buick Grand National? 3.8L TC V6? It was, and still is, a MONSTER! 10.6s quater mile times stock!

I think the real fast Regal would be a Grand National. My girlfriend thought it was really funny that I said some boxy looking black late 80's Buick was a nice car. This beast had a turbo 3.6L V6 that made it faster than a Corvette of the same year. Another fast limited production vehicle GM came out with not too long after the GN was the Syclone. All-wheel drive turbo 4.3L V6 that could beat the lower to mid level exotics of the day with a 13.8 1/4 mile time STOCK in a TRUCK. Cars and paintball guns are all about personality. You can buy an angel or spend time/money/effort to make a cocker work as well. Same can be done with cars. As we recognize all paintballers as comrades, we should look at all speed demons as fellow enthusiasts.
