QUESTION: Does the tattoo rule only apply to areas that are not able to be covered in standard gear (i.e pants and a shirt type thing?)

I have NO want to join the armed forces, but if drafted I would of course go cause its my duty for everything I've been given and my children one day will be given .... but I have 1/2 of my right leg tattood so I'm curious.

I have piercings, but they can be taken out with no big deal ... but my tattoo's are on my back, arm and leg... the arm and back are fully covered by a normal tshirt, but the leg is my question.

        Thanks,
        Dave

Tattoos on areas that are covered by standard uniforms are allowed (again with the exception of some TOPICS for tattoos.. but again, that is not always enforced either). Yes, you can have your entire leg tattooed. I knew several folks that had their entire backs, good portions of their arms, and good portions of their legs tattooed.

          You should be fine.

According to the regs, you could have a body suit, as long as it didn't show anywhere while in your class "A" uniform, and is not "distracting" while in BDU's (ie: when your sleeves are rolled up). Very difficult to be discreet with blue/green/red tribal arms though!

My tats do not show normally. But a little bit of a wing can be seen peeking out of the T-shirt when my blouse is off. I already have permission and clearance to get another eagle on my left forearm, which will of course be in full view while in T-shirt. I earned my exemption due to 15 years of exemplary service (I've never been written up for any infraction, and always score at the top of all schools I attend), they know I'm not going to get anything inked that would embarass my unit, the Army, or my wife!

In response to Army's long post: AMEN!

Secretary Rumsfeld has already gone on record saying that there will be NO draft in this conflict.

If there was a draft, chances are I'd go enlist the day it was announced, goodness knows the Marines have been after me to join up since high school, apparently I'm Officer material... (I get calls from the local recruiters... oh, every month or so.)

Hey Army, my bro had the harley eagle (still has) done on his arm. It was done before the regs, but, curiously enough, it was one that was listed as "rascist". Now, does that fall under it? I dont have access to the reg at this time...I know we had one posted while I was deployed, but I never really read it. Funny how an American motorcycle maker can be labeled as rascist...go figure.

Times have changed and basically we learned from our mistakes. 200 hundred years ago it was okay to pick on the defense less. Now it is not. I understand how hard feelings are still out there but instead of harping on the past we should direct our efforts to the future. I am not stating forget the past but learn from it. This leads to the Japanese internment camps. The US admitted they were wrong and compensated $20,000 to the individuals affected. In order to make sure it won't happen again they set up the Treasury of the United States the Civil Liberties Public Education Fund, which paid out 1.3 billion between 1989-93.
the past is still the past, and expanding in the name of the mother country? america (after independance) had no mother country. and 20,000$ for the victims of internment camps(if they even got that much) wasnt alot considering that the peoples lives were pretty much ruined. alot of japanese owned businesses would be looted or houses would be robbed or taken if the people were unable to pay property taxes.

yea it is far easier to dodge the draft then to accualy get in. they give you all this paper work and there are sertain questions that if you choose yes youre automaticly disqualified.

for example: there is this one question that asks if you are mentaly able to shoot a gun (something like that) but if you flat out refuse to hold or operate a gun they wont let you in. if you fail a drug test (1 puff within like 1 year will fail you) you cant get in. if you have had anytype of counsleing involving anger... if you have an ingrown toe... the list goes on.

I won't comment all the the stuff being discussed, because I think that eveything has been said! At this point the info is in black and white it just depends on what opinions you hold.

Thanks Pete, I trhink that is pretty close to the Army reg. And, flat feet doesnt disqualify you anymore...that was back when they only issued a couple of sizes of boots, and they didnt have corrective orthotics. Hell, my feet are almost flat.

if there is a draft you could also just join the coast guard or something.

None of those things would disqualify you from inlistment. It only delays you. You can smoke pot 10 times and still get in, hell you can get a conviction for possesion and still get in.
