Someone tried to break into my house tonite

my alarm went off earlier tonite, garage door. heres the full stats

3 hours before alarm goes off i leave garage door WIDE open, unlocked, unbolted, and open.

1 hour after that my mother finds the door open, and locks it

30 seconds before alarm goes off, my mother senses someone in the yard near the house

    alarm goes off

we see its garage door from the key pad

we go to look at it. its perfectly secure. we have a 2 by 4 across it, for extra strength

the ONLY way for that door to get away from its sensor was for someone to literally body slam into it trying to break it down.

an hour later my dad comes home and investigates outside

he finds a potted plant that had been knocked down, noone in our house did it.

so now we're sleeping scared. i have my dog and my marker with me. heres what i think happened

Punk goes cruising through our neighborhood looking for an easy mark, sees door I left open. so he waits till it gets dark. door is closed, figures its not locked, finds out its locked, so he tries to bodyslam it.

this is troubling because we've had a string of break ins and attempted break ins right on my block. one happened where someone tried to break downa front door as a lady was inside, aware of it all, and DOGS WERE BARKING. these guys werent afraid of the dogs or the people, which means guns probably, and people not afraid to use em.

wish me luck, by the way, assuming i do get killed tonite in my sleep, i live in miami so look in the miami herald if i dont post here tomorrow.

    sleep tite.

Hope that everything is ok now. Just remember aim low, aim for the family jewls! And don't forget to up the velocity. Don't forget, if the cops ask why you shot him, tell them that you were afraid for you and your family's life.

here is a better idea, try to remember everything, keep your cool. give them what they want, and dont gamble with your life. Makes more sence, dont you think? the marker is olny asking for trouble, and a nice 9mm hole in your head.

taking things like this into your own hands isnt a good idea, especially being a minor, you can cause more trouble than you think. baisically, im sayin dont use your marker.

robbers bite, ive never been robbed while i was in my own home, but our second housse (cleaning it up to sell it) had tons of antiques in it. We know who did it, it was the pot head neibor nextdoor, but we havnt been able to convict him. the bastard came int hrough the basement window, broke the door down in the basement, and went opstairs to the attic, where tons of fine china, and family silverwear was. not to mention my grandmothers collection of get ritch fast plans(which happened to fail) things like money proofs, stamps, etc.

PEople who steal are as bad as cheaters in my book, and i hate cheeters

I can't beleive they wouldn't be afraid of a dog? Even if a robber has a gun the chances of him actually being able to hit the animal in the dark are pretty slim and I don't know of anyone who likes being bitten.

Have you notified the police, they should be patroling the area.

Damn, that's scary. Where do you live that crime is so bad? Next time maybe you shouldn't forget to close and lock doors since you live in a bad neighborhood, eh? I hope everything turns out ok. Turn up FPS to 400.

And yet, a perfect example of why we have the 2nd Amendment and why it should never be infringed.

I'm glad everyone is alright. I would notify your police department immediatly that there was an attempt. It could be very useful for them.

Does it leave much gwano laying about? what do you feed it?

Anyway, back to the topic, hehhee - The system in my house won't go off for the garage, unless one of two things: 1. they pry the door up and open (more than about 1/2 inch); or 2, they must cut-through the door/wall and take a step inside (internal sensors). I don't get it? if they tried to body slam the door and it set off the alarm, I would think you would hear that (unless, of course you have a really huge house and or a non-attached garage that is really far away)

                        Good Luck

HalB, I have had differences with you in the past, but I hope you are okay. DO NOT SHOOT AN INTRUDER WITH A MARKER! If they are armed, they will kill you! You live in Florida right? Well that is a concealed carry state. Ask your father to buy a gun for your home. I keep a Glock in a safe in my room in case of a break-in. I have a shotgun for my wife if there is break in when I am not there. A shotgun may be ideal for your family. Most times, the sound of a shotgun being cocked will be enough to send a criminal running. Note, the sound alone should be enough to scare them off!

Me, I am lucky. I don't worry about break-ins. *Knocks wood* I have 2 police officers and a detective that live on either side of me!

Halb, glad you're ok. Chances are, like you said, they were looking for an easy tareget. However, the legality of shooting someone in your home is iffy in today's society. Especially if he is unarmed. Have the security system is a great deterrent; hey, it worked. And, a big dog helps too. Firearms statistics show, unfortunately, that people who sleep with loaded firearms "waiting to defend what is their's" end up shooting a family member. It is confusing to be woken up from a deep sleep, sight onto someone, and shoot, especially when you are under stress. I think you and your parents are on the right track with the alarm system. Hope you and yours stay well.
