    Yes.

The only person responsible for the safety and security of your home is you (or your parents if you live at home). Take the responsibility seriously and buy and learn how to properly use a gun. Spend 5 minutes at the library and read up on the laws around defending yourself and your family against intruders. No point in buying a gun if you find out 90% of people who defend themselves get convicted of manslaughter in your state (or whatever).

I have, and always will say, that the shotgun is the BEST home defense weapon. Until there's some auto-aiming, auto-firing, super-smart, low-penetration weapon, it will remain the best.

with a glock you gotta worry about that 9mm slug going thru the drywall (which hardly slows them down) and nailing your neighbor in the head, which = not good. Especially if you live in an apartment or condo like I do. You gotta think a bit more when pointing that thing.

On the other hand, a shotgun with relativly small shot (I think bird shot will work OK at close ranges) won't penetrate walls nearly as well. Very powerful at close ranges which is ideal in a home.

...that, and the sound of a 'cocking pump-action shotgun has got to be the manliest sounding thing on the face of the earth .

If you were robbing a house, and suddenly you heard a "click, click, click... Kah-CHUCK!" I think You'd be runnin' pretty dern fast.

I was just joking in my last post. It's best to do whatever the intruder says. Like what magman0076 said, just keep your cool and try to remember specific details. You do have a "right" to defend you or your family IF you feel treatened. There are legal loopholes that you can use to get around but the use of arms should only be used as a last resort. If your family has an interest in buying a firearm for protection, don't just spend 5 minutes learning state laws on firearms. Talk to current gun owners, or go to a local gun clubs meets and ask questions. They will be more than happy to give you info about firearms, they will even let you try their collection, with the consent of your parents. Spend days, weeks, or even months learning about firearms. It's best to be prepared when it comes to firearms.

argh. I cant believe you quoted me that way. I was implying that it doesn't take much time or effort to greatly increase your knowledge on the subject. I thought that was kind of obvious.

              I'm up!

Like the site Dre. The G.I.Joe cards are a funny way to intoduce the team. The warnings were funny too.

Now to get serious. I have to disagree with the peaceniks amoung you. I am never going to trust the safety of my family to the good will of a criminal. I have taken many training courses on the use of a firearm. One of my clients is an NRA certified instructor and has brought me into many of his classes. My wife has not, hence the shotgun. My wife is visually impaired, so it's simple for her to use the spray and pray method. Stand at the top of the stairs and rack the shotgun. Anyone fool enough to not run away deserves to get in half. BTW I keep #7 shot for it, firing down the stairs will shread anyone coming up without any continuation danger.

To address the issue of shooting a family member, a gun is a very serious responsibility! I never take mine out to check any noises until I check my boys' rooms to make sure they are in their beds asleep. Then I sweep the house with my dog with me. I figure I can shoot whatever he leaves behind. In New Jersey, you have a duty to retreat so if you have to give the scumbag an opportunity to escape. However, if they are coming up the stairs in your home, they are fair game.

I am not a gun nut, but an easy going guy! However I will say this: Mess with me all you want, I am a big boy and can take. Mess with my wife and I'll hurt you bad. Try to mess with my kids and my God have mercy on you because I sure as hell won't!

Kind of funny, but since I live in a nice neighborhood the last time I had to check a noise in my house was last summer. My wife heard a bang and then some noise she couldn't ID. So I check on kids then go to sweep the house. It was the check valve on my new 88/4500 tank that I had filled that evening. Thoses things take a while to bleed out of the check valve!

Here is my advice, before i got my shotgun i did keep my marker fullly loaded with 200 rounds and all i had to do was turn on the gas. It was the only defense i had. I now have a 20 gauge 6 shot the plug is in for all you that no that in NC there can be no more then 3. We have been broken into twice but strangely never robbed. Both time nothing was taken. The second time i came home with my sister and the door was standing wide open my room is just to left of the door. I graped the shotgun from the case loaded it and cocked it. Then i heard a noise from the backdoor, i assumed the person was in the house when i cokced the gun but heard it and ran. Agian very scary. Just be careful for all i no is that it could have been a dog and my door was just left open but u never no.

hope you all are okay once this is over

first of all if you have only a paintball gun or something not so lethal dont aim for the privates! aim for their eyes first! blind them then take them out! becareful dont go crazy make sure it is infact a intruder before you shoot or swing...

now if somone broke into my house screw my paintball gun they are gonna get blown away with a 12 ga.

if a perrson is my house and has broken in i should have every right to shoot them no matter if they are armed or not! they broke in! unwelcome thief! its total bs that i could get chargerd for murder if i kill an intruder inside my home "without being threatend". thats stupid! thery broke in why shoudnt i be threatend!

If someone was inside my house and they were unarmed and i got behind him and he didn't know it I would stomp the floor and scare the living hell out of him.

Now seriously i would shoot them with a gun not a paintball gun if they were in my houselike Joker said. If he broke into your house they deserve to get shot.At least shoot him where it will kill him immediately so he doesn't sit there and suffer(or be like me and shoot him in the leg and let the screaming begin)hehehehe.....

                            Glad that you are okay.

on three different occasions someone has broken into our house and each time, they have gotten in through my window. the person(s) never take anything, sort of like they just chill in our house or something.
