CB... No articles to support YOUR ideas? WTF?

But yet you let "evidence and HISTORY" decide for you?

WHO comes up with that "evidence" ? WHO writes that "history" ? You sure as hell don't.

As I stated earlier... You are nothing more than one GREAT contradiction.

Rebel46_99 - You'll get that type of response a lot, it's best to just ignore it.

On topic - Once again, thank God and special forces we got a POW back! Poor 19 yr old. Hope she's ok.

Pfc. Jessica Lynch recieved multiple wounds from the attack. She was treated by an Iraqi doctor. Iraqi people led rescue operatives to a graveyard near the hospital and the others were found in the morge(sp). Brig. Gen. Vincent Brooks said ammunition, mortars, maps and a terrain model were found at the hospital, along with "other things that made it very clear it was being used as a military command post." Yeah I read that. Sounds like she should do ok physically. I just meant I hope she's ok mentally. That's gotta be pretty traumatic. Even if she WAS treated to geneva convention guidlines.

Ya know, there ought to be a rule that you can't continue to argue about something if anyone has to go back more than two pages to figure out WHAT you are arguing about.

C'mon guys, everyone knows that the press is extremely limited in what they see and they're limited in their ability to understand it - the rest they fill in. Thus ALL press is biased. Expecting otherwise is the realm of fools.

Well, we all know she was rescued from her Iraqi captors. The important thing is that she has the support of a grateful nation. I have no care for way how you feel about this war, you should feel joy that a father's daughter was returned from an uncertain fate. That is the important thing. Not your position on the war.
As for the rest, this is an infromational thread. Not a thread for name calling, slanderizing, and not, most importantly, a political thread. If you want one of those, feel free to make one. The whole free speech thing is great.

Why is it that every liberal in this country seems to think that our military is so incompetant that it's going to end up being Viet Nam?

Possibly because that's what they're hoping it'll be?

                  Unreal.

Our goal is not to make Iraq a democracy, we're trying to liberate it so that the Iraqi people may install thier own government, who knows? Maybe they'll choose parliment, it works for England, and Canada.

Probably because it was an awful war, that involved a lot of death, a lot of deception, and a lot of serious emotional scars and because the majority of the younger (and quite a few of the older) people in the country don't really understand WHY we lost or the long-term political issues that got us there in the first place. It was fought for the right reasons, but it was fought in the wrong way.

Iraq has many similarities - not in the tactical situation, but in the long term political issues that put us there. Its going to be longer and more painful than we want.

The Iraqi war (and the Afgan war and the Gulf war) is the result of 50 years of foreign policy in the mid-east by multiple presidents and parties and countries. We have at several times heard the call to change what we are doing, to change our course, but we haven't listened.

I would prefer we weren't in this war, but since we are, I would have the military pull out the stops and get the job done, with no second guessing. We have the opportunity to make changes after the war, when our boys are home, though I doubt we'll make them. I wonder if those squabbling about the war now will make the hard decisions to get us out of mid-east politics once the fighting is over.

I'm with Fatman. War is horrible which is why I would have prefered diplomacy. Now that we are at it, however, we should not force the military to fight with one hand behind their back.

Another thing soldiers in Vietnam fought bravely and extremely well. I don't think they lost one major engagment and the casulty ratio heavily favored the U.S. The military in Vietnam was NOT incompetent.

Still I'm thinking that we'll win this war in a month of fighting. I think Saddam and his army is a paper tiger (which is why I never viewed him as a threat to us anyway). Hopefully this will be true but some military experts are projecting longer. We'll see.

You have to think those Special Forces who rescued the POW were thinking...."THIS was the reason I joined up!"

Reminder...stay on subject and review the early guidlines. We all got off track here lately. This one was to only discuss what was happening not why or if. We had that thread and locked it up after much time to get that all out of our system. So now we are just reporting and talking about what is reported and found and happening over there.

MCJ - Take down that pic.

This isn't about info about the war but about reports on the war. A Los Angeles Times photographer has been fired for altering a front page picture. It featured a British soldier directing Iraqi civilians to take cover from Iraqi fire on the outskirts of Basra. In the picture, you can see some of the civilians appearing twice on the left side. You can find the story here.
