I am still covered in the initial estimate. And I have been assured by the insurance company that any additional expenses will be covered.

Welcome to the world of insurance automotive repair. It seems the majority of the companies that do repair work for insurance companies could give a rats *** about doing the work properly and with pride.

My dad went through this with his 99 Dodge Cummins 4x4. The previous owner kept the truck in IMMACULATE condition. It was all white from the factory and he had a custom painter paint the silver color on the lower part of the truck to give it the two-tone paint job like from the factory. He didn't want it done that way from the factory because the tape lines aren't perfect from the factory. My dad got the truck after the previous owner owned it for about 6 months (He had to sell it for financial reasons).

Well, after owning it for a few months, some rollerbladers decided to bump into the side of the bed of the truck and put some surface dents in it. They weren't very deep, but you could definitely see them looking down the side of the truck.

After taking it to the repair shop to get the insurance work done, the tape lines they did were horrible. They had to paint the entire side of the truck because white is one of the worst colors to blend. There was orange peel, spots where masking tape was still left on the truck and all sorts of other flaws. Needless to say my dad drove it back the next day and told them to do it right. They did it again and it was "better", but still not the way it should be. It was good enough that my dad didn't want to be hassled with a third time of taking it back. Also, after the first time they did it, they put back on the same "Dodge 2500 24-Valve Turbo Diesel" emblem that they cracked down the middle when they took it off. After getting that replaced during the second repair job, they put on a new emblem for the OLD style Dodge truck that wasn't 24-Valve. So it said "Dodge 2500 Cummins Turbo Diesel". He finally got the right emblem and a new one after that.

After about a year, the paint started to CRACK. This was PPG paint that they used, which is a very high quality automotive paint. My dad took it back in for the THIRD time. A PPG rep came out and looked at it and they ended up paying the repair shop to repaint it.

It looks fine now, but will never be the same way it was before. The perfect tape line where the white meets the silver is no longer perfect in spots and there's other small spots where the paint is not as smooth as it should be.

Needless to say, my dad will never take another vehicle there and it goes to show that these companies that do insurance work are there to do the work and move the customers in and out as fast as possible.

Here's a picture of the truck sitting outside of my Uncle's machine shop.

It does make a BIG difference where you take you vehicle to get the work done, and who does the work. I had a white van damaged while at the dealership. Fortunately (for me) a friend of mine worked there and had taken it in for repair. He insisted on a specific body shop for the repair. Even then it had to go back because the paint did not match. He insisted that the owner redo the work himself. It was perfect by the time I saw it.

That doesn't sound good. Let's hope he is good at matching paint.

I know it is a real PITA, but MAKE them do it right. It doesn't matter if it's close. Close is still WRONG. The more "we" let people get away with things like this (yes, I've let people get away with things like this), the more they will try.

Although I've never owned a car that could be entered in a contest, I DO know what you are talking about. I'm that picky. However, you're only asking that it be the same as it was before the accident. MAKE them fix it.
