Hello all. I haven't been around the boards for a while...been away at school. I just wanted to say that I have nothing but the deepest respect for cops. It's a job I honestly KNOW I could not do. Hated when they bust some one...a month later the same biligerant fool they busted needs their help and the police can't get there fast enough to suit them. It's a double edged sword they walk every single day they're on the job.

A guy I know who lives in a small town back east (I live in CA) actually had the guts to talk back once:
Cop: I've been waiting for an annoying little punk like you all day!!!
Francis: I got here as fast as i could.

The officer turned out to be his friends dad and the cop couldn't stop laughing so he let my friend go. Cool situation, to bad it only works in a small town. Anywhere as would get you....

Ive gotten my share of speeding tickets. You know - you do the crime - you pay the fine.

Actually - I thought he was very cool with you if you made the wife comment.

I would have said I smelled weed, taken you out of the car, and done a search... I am SURE there is something behind this speaker - oops guess not...

Also - you can pay lawyers who basically go in and get your sentence reduced to littering - so it doesnt bump your insurance - butthe lawyer fees cost as much or more than the ticket...

cops - no one like them unless you are the one in trouble.

The only thing I have to say is there should be more consistency in the law.

          I still have more

Studies have prooved that a fuzzbuster(or any other detector) can promote safer driving- They say is makes the driver more alert- just a spurt of information i read in TIME

I have skateboareded for about 4 years, and the only time the cops give me a hassle is when we(me and my buddies) are skatboarding in large crowds on the street

Has anyone else heard more of the new age concerning driving permits and licences in NYS?- i heard 18 is the new lucky number-i have a lot of rambling and confusion about this law if its true

I once was able to race a cop on a very empty freeway, till his Supercharged 5.0 Spanked my 66 GTA Mustang...he was cool about it. he even bummed a smoke from me. He wrote down 85+ instead of 135. So it was not a very cheap ticket -400 bucks and 2 points on my DMV record...but it was better than me going to jail for reckless driving. Plus I was able to check his engine out and peek at all his cool cop toys. Out here in Nor Cal, most of cops are nice. It's the Calif. Highway Patrol that are real dicks.

                    I just wanna know...

A few things I have problems with, and some are just pet peeves...

                    Like:
                    1. Why do cops ask: "Do you know why I pulled you over?"
I HATE when an officer asks me that. Half the time I know the answer, and it's legitimate. The other half I have no clue and it turns out to be something that would seem like they had nothing better to do.

                    2. Why on god's green earth do Cops INSIST on blinding me with thier spot light when I get pulled over at night?
When I push all my mirrors out of alignment with my face, ALL of them get all pissy with me. It's bad enough I've been caught half the time doing something that wasn't legal and I'm mad at myself, why do they have to do this and add more anger at them?

                    3. I've been given field sobriety tests (you know, that nice little set of tasks that even a gymnist can't do) and been forced to give a blood test (no way I'm getting a DWI for using Listerine before I go out) to prove I was only swerving because my hand slipped on the wheel. Why isn't there a better way to check sobriety that doesn't waste my or the officer's time? Btw, my eyes are kinda sensitive to the BLINDING light of a Mag Lite that doubles as a beat-stick when shined in my face, I think everyone but blind people share this problem....

                    4. How come a police officer felt the need to draw his service peice on me while I was sitting at a bus stop when I was 17, going home from my girlfriend's house after he drove past me 8 times in the 20 minutes I was waiting for the bus? Orders me to put my hands straight out to my sides, then checks my flight coat for god knows what, just after dark?

                    5. At one of the LONGEST lights in the city near my house, how come every officer feels the need to put his lights on, drive right through the light, turn off his lights and proceed like the light was green for just him/her?

                    6. Why don't most cops have to follow the same laws of the road as us when there's not an emergency? Last time I checked, u-turns in an intersection were illegal. Stuff like that...

                    7. How come you guys don't give out baseball cards anymore?

                    8. Why don't you guys laugh when we ask you bike cops where you keep your shotgun or if you got into any high-speed chases that day?

                    9. How many of you does it really take to pull over one old lady? I've seen 3 units totalling 5 officers last year. (I know, sometimes old people suffer from dementia and actually are VERY dangerous, but it still looks bad)

                    10. How come more cops can't be cool like my old neighbor and guys like Tack?

Just some things I'd personally want to know...

Btw, I love police officers. Medium Rare, some shallets and some fresh sautee'd mushrooms... Tender...

Ever since the WATER POLICE pulled me over while I was riding my waverunner, I have had little respect for any type of law enforcement officer.

I know there are lots of responses to this thread, but lemme just say that:

Stop being upset when you break the law and get caught. Be thankful that there are brave men and women that are honorable to risk thier lives everyday to serve thier local communities. By recklessly speeding you are as guilty as someone who walks into a school/store/public place with a weapon of any kind and starts hurting people.

So stop being immature about it and respect the men and women in blue. They do a duty, took an oath, to protect you...and worst of all...they dont even know you. Hmm...

                            Hey Tick

Admidtadly I already knew the answers to my own questions, but I very rarely get to hear what a friendly cop has to say. The last friendly cop I knew lived two houses down from my mom's house. I don't bash on cops as a general rule because Chris (my old neighbor) used to get home at the same time as me, so we'd see each other often. He was shot at by some drugged up moron on PCP while he was on duty. A 24-case of Miller later and hearing all the details put the job you law enforcement officers do into prospective.

As for having a gun pointed at me, I highly doubt I matched a good description, I had blue hair back then. For those of you who've never had this happen to you in any circumstance, think of some newbie waving his marker around with no barrel plug in and you don't have your mask on. Take the instance of "Oh *****" and make it last at it's peak for the duration of someone pointing a real gun at you.
I went home and had a nice talk with my mom about how much I loved her and all that stuff.

Hey Tack, if you're ever gonna come to Wisconsin, lemme know, we'll go play.

                              Rusty,

I don't know if I will be in your area any time soon but I will deffinatly keep that in mind. The same goes for you if you ever plan to head to Central Missouri. I would be happy to team up with you.

                              SprayingMango,

Thanks for the support, It is people like you that help us keep our heads up. Sometimes it really sucks to have to stop some normally good people because they were speeding or because they did something really stupid that broke the law. When that happens unless polocy or the sevarity of the infraction dictates further action a warning is the best course of action. I hope everyone out there remembers that if you are speeding and you know you are speeding you will at some time in your life get pulled over. If you get by with a warning good for you, but if you don't, just be glad that it is a ticket instead of a toe tag when you lose control of your vehicle and kill yourself or someone else.
Don't try running, you will only give me a better story!
