drifting?

i was just wondering how to drift(in a car).

sorry if im just slow or whatever, it doesnt seem hard.

are there any secrets, or tricks of the trade?

drifting, in short, is using a RWD car to create a lack of traction to the rear wheels (the drive wheels) and power through a series of corners sideways, using inputs of throttle to the rear wheels to keep on course. drifting is NOT getting sideways for half a second around a corner. drifting is the art of stringing many corners together into one long seamless run. it can be described as "artful recklessness", as basically you're out of control, but in control at the same time. you're trying to keep your level of out-of-control-ed-ness under control, if that makes sense.

Yeah, drifting is when you purposely put the car sideways through a turn and you do so knowing where you're going to come out of the turn.

This is why fish tailing isn't considering drifting because its just 'skidding', you can't possibly have complete control over the car knowing where u're going to put it in the turn.

You say drifting doesnt seem hard... well, YOU'RE WRONG. Drifting is probably the most difficult way to race and probably the most costly too. No one understands correct drifting so all they think of it is getting sideways. It isn't just getting sideways through a turn. If you drift properly, you should be able to late brake your opponent and beat him out of the turn too.

Drifting requres smooth car control and good weight transfer skills. It takes a lot of practice to get good at drifting. You'll probably spend a lot on new car parts and tires too. You can do a lot of damage to your car from a bad drift. It's mostly suspension parts you'll be replacing. You'll probably be going through tons of tires if you don't drift properly.

There are a lot of different ways to drift. The easiest is e-brake induced drifting, which is usually used by beginners. Then there is brake drifting, where you induce drift right out of a brake when the weight is on the front tires. There's also yaw drifting, where drift is induced by pure force of the turn. And I think the last is whatever the hell method you want (note: these are only done by veteran drifters). Mostly Japanese drift kings do this, they do crazy stuff like start their drift at 100mph way back from the turn, run off the road to break traction but maintain speed, clip the dirt on the inside corner to do a late drift, etc.

It takes a while to get good at drifting, you'll need to get used ot being sideways. I've riden in a car that drifted and it's scary because THE CAR IS OUT OF CONTROL. Well, it's controlled, out of control-ness.

Also, the smaller the drift angle, the faster and more compact you can take the turn. If you have a lower power engine it can help too since you'd probably at WOT through most of the turn.

ahhh drifting is evil i broke my cars front axel doin that. but i still do it anyways. but dont do it to offten it can put and enormous amount of strin on ur axels

Drifting is fun but a terrible race strategy. If you drift through an entire turn, you're losing precious time. There's a reason why formula one cars don't do it, or any other race cars...very few will drift and when they do its a short distance.

for cars that doesn't have much cornering g's, drifting can actually save time.
