thats very true, i just see bigger differences in country, and classics. Some i like... they are rare, but this is very true i should have thought out my statement more... anyhoo i try to not classify my music, but i guess i have.

Well, pop and Rock have come togeather so much they are bascily the same thing now, but counrty and clasical are more distinct from other genre's. I don't listen to much hardcore bluegrass/country, but I do like lynard skynard, he's kinda rock counrty if you had to clasify him. I also like the "o brother wear art thou" soundtrack. Their are some awsome songs on that.

IMO classifying music is fine by me, it's when you decide that one band sucks just because of their lable that I have a problem with. Genre's are usefull to help describe a band, but you can't tell if their good just by what people call them.

Am I the only one sick of hearing these "punk" kids whine about how bands sold out? God forbid they'd want people to hear their music. Who cares if they sign on with a major label? Why does that make a difference? If the label wants to sign them, and they want people to hear their music, where's the problem?

And why does a band suck because they don't fit you're definition of punk? Who cares what genre they fall under? The fact that you say they suck because they don't fall into a certain genre only shows how narrow minded you are.

I like good charlotte dangit! Their not the best band in the world by any means, but their music is friggin catchy! I also like Hanson! Why? cause its catchy! there I said it!

I've been seeing things your way, bro.

I long for the days when it was cool to be a rock star precisely because you made a buttload of money for doing something so cool that everyone idolized you.

ya now it seems if your famous, everyone hates you. It's like it's a bad thing to make alot of money. This society is sick. They pay money to bring theis people into the spotlight, then they bash them and say they suck and call them sell outs. It's like they only make people famous so that everone can laugh at them on the way down. The days of the rockstar seem to be over.

i m a huge fan of Greenday. to me, Good Charlotte are a greenday that aims their music towards girls, and pretend to be real punk - but they're pop. in other words, GOOD CHARLOTTE SUCK!

                        You No talk anymore.

That makes no sence whatsoever. I realy dont hear any conevtion between greeday's style and GC's. Greend day is more "bassy" and IMO WAY better than GC.

Havn't we had enough of this "They arn't punk so they suck" stuff already in this thread. If your gonna bash them, just say you dont like their music, or think of something other than them not being punk. PLEASE!

There is a large difference between a band getting big and a band selling out. Selling out is bad, getting big is great. The problem with selling out, is most bands will sacrifice their artistic priveleges to make money, which in turn creates mindless drivel in the form of radio music. That's one of the reasons many people hate to see their favorite bands sign on a major label, because they may be sacrificing artistic control. If a band manages to get big and stay true to their music (which also happens often), then that's a great thing for the fans and the band. The reason people always seem to get pissed regardless of the circumstances, is because the particular community is very pessimistic, and will assume the worst will happen. So they jump down the bands throat and swear to never listen to their music again.

On the other hand, I rarely hear people complain about a band because they're not punk. What they have a problem with is a band claiming to be punk, but are infact a neatly packaged pop band.

In conclusion to my rant, you really don't know what you're talking about and should probably stray from conversations like this in the future.

I understand what it means to sell-out. The point is that you don't know if Good Charlotte is "staying true to their music" or not. Yeah, they have a poppy sound, (and admittedly, cheap rhymes), but not every band has to change the world tbe cool.

Maybe they just want to make fun music. Or maybe you're right and they are in it for the money. But I honestly don't see a problem with that. If they have talent enough to make something people like to listen to, I say more power to 'em.

Like I said, maybe they're not artists, but you know you crank up the radio when Lifestyles of the rich and famous is on and no one's there

It's not too hard to tell if a band is sacrificing artistic rights when signing major. Generally if a new CD is littered with sing-a-long songs that are structured to be radio hits, you know a band has hit rock bottom.

There's nothing wrong with fun music. I enjoy some fun music myself. But I have a problem with bands that change in order to make fun music because they want to be the next big MTV hit. And talent isn't needed at all to get people to listen to a band, that's just clever advertising.

PS, I don't listen to the radio. Not trying to be an elitist dick, but why listen to music that is a mix of stuff you like and dislike? Why not just pop in a CD or listen to stuff you've downloaded? So no, I don't crank up the volume when Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous comes on.

You say their is a big differnce between selling out and getting big, but EVERY band that is big get's called sellout's. Just be happy for them for being able to make lots of money doing something they like. Every band changes their sound over time, it just happens.
