      oh pish posh

      post counts are fun

in addition to what i said before, post count can and should show maturity, intelligence, and helpfulness. unless of course you're identified as a post whore.. then you have just been moved closer to the "worthless" side of AO

Yea I agree. I looked for people w/ higher post counts for advice etc. If they deleted I would be very pissed off. Plus I want to get to 1000. I've been wanting to get there for awhile now.

You have posted 4 times in the same thread and none of the 3 newer posts actually add to the thread...2 were replys and both that should have been let go as we know you have an issue with p8ntball1016 for one.

It would be nice that post counts gave an indication of knowledge/trustworthyness once they may have done but now they don't...date joined is an "ok" way of looking at things but then look into the members list and see how many have joined and have yet to make a post, the reasons for not posting could be twofold 1 they don't have anything to say or 2 they registered the name to stop someone else getting it...I lost out on just plain Mark by about 2 weeks and whoever this Mark is he has yet to make a post..the reason for wanting my name was that I don't hide on forums behind a nickname so if I was going to deal flames, the person on the recieving end knows who is doing it. I have been on the recieving end on another forum and after a time I reaslied who the fool was but it wouldn't have taken so long with a realname in place but that's just my reasons for using my real name. I do use nicknames on IM but then only becuase so many people use those services my real name is long gone.
Finally swinging things back onto topic keep the post counts as everyone likes to see some reward for their actions.

That's EXACTLY why they should go,because they actually show none of that and only mislead many into thinking they do.In most cases it only propagates false information and rumour.I can't count how many times I see people quoting misinformation as though it were gospel simply because some high poster said it first no matter how incorrect it may be.

It also has created a wierd phenomenon where "some" people like to grade thier utter useless existance on a scale from 1 to 10,000 with one being Mother Theresa and 10,000 being PYRO.

I say lose it or put in the Member Profile where it can be accessed if need be but out of plain view to hopefully limit the need to "enhance" it.

We did this in the TTM forums to stop the post whoring, and it's worked. We hardly get any post whoring anymore (posting just to up post count) because of this, and because it, people are more respected for what they have to say rather than their percieved seniority due to post count. THose who truly do deserve respect due to their seniority are already known to the community.

I think it'd have a similarly positive effect if done here at AO.

                      Get rid of it.

As for trading, there are at least two other things that can give someone credibility: registration date, and a good buy/sell/trade thread. Post count has little impact compared to the other two.

I think the cons outweigh the pros in terms of getting rid of the post count. Seems good enough to me.

So does that mean I can go on my other account I made about 2 years ago for some reason, and rip people off?

over on pirate4x4.com, there is a great system. you still have a post count, but your posts do not increase in general chit-chat. this makes high posters even more credible because you know that they did not just post whore in the chit-chat forum to get their count up *cough*pyro*cough*. even though pyro isnt alone, i think that he is the worst, him and p8ntball####.

i think a high post count should give credibility to the person, but the more i read pyro and p8ntball#### i doubt this theory. if a persons post count does not rise in the chit chat (friendy corner) i think that alone would cut down on the Post whoring.

I couldn't care less either way. I voted to kill it off in the vain hope that it'd stop PW'ing though. It would be nice to replace it with some sort of ranking system or something so new people would have an idea of who to ask for info, but I don't know how that could be accomplished.

I dunno, does that one have feedback? (if so, I guess you could rip people off if thats your thing) I trade based on feedback, not on how many idiotic posts the person has
