Warhammer 40k'ers, how much is too much?

I think I have a problem. I'm on my third army in just under a year. I have about 3300 points of Black Leigon Chaos Marines, 2300 point of Iron Warriors, and now I'm building a Imperial Guard army.

I have a frined that is on his fifth Army in under a year. They are all at leat 2000 point each. I think he has done Night Lords, Death Guard, Emperor's Children, Aoltic Craftworld, and is now building a Daemonhunters army.

Maybe we should just set fire to piles of cash directly?

I really enjoy this hobby, and it keeps me sane. That, and I have to maintain my nerdiness.

But, again, how much is too much?

yeah breg I know your pain... My only salvation is most my friends are annoyed with the new assault rules and have hung up their armys for the time being...

Oh and and always (with any game I play) the faction I pick never seems to get any worth while love from new rules and such. /sigh

        I own a 3000 pt Tyranid hive
        about 2500ish of standard orks
and some sisters of battle that I can never seem to find

I do the conversions and my friend is the painter. If I had anything of mine painted id show it off but well lets just say my friend perfers to do the paying customers painting before the friends private painting.

Never played that RPG b4. Looks pretty cool though. What are you trying to do in this game? Build armies?

So are all of these units individualy painted? How many units are we talking about here? 100's 1000's? and yes pics ASAP

            Mmmm...
The best was to explain this game is that it is a table top strategdy (sp) game. The game its self is points based. Thing of the point as in game money. You use the points to "buy" units and upgrades for those units.
Usually the models have to be painted, but the guys that I play against are pretty lax on that. We really don't care as long as the model is clearly repersented.
It's also kind of a dual hobby. You buy the models in an unpainted and unassembeled manner. Then you have to put them together and paint them. Each weapon has ruels and such. You can also describe it as one giant money pit.

I understand, Ed. the new trial rules are horrible. I don't like them becasue how it takes away from my style of game play. But, most of the players that use armies that don't excel at close combat like them. Though, the new vehicle rules are interesting. The changed the weapon rules a bit. It's all in chapter approved 2004. Most of my friends worry that the new edition will incorporate them.
By the way, did you hear that the Witch hunters Codex will cover the Sisters of Battle?

I think Doc Nickels whiteboard put it best...

This year I resolve to take up an expensive hobby, find a girlfriend... Or just save time and set fire to piles of cash directly.

Yeah its a huge money pit... but if you take your time and learn how to paint and model well you can build one hell of a cool lookin army.

basicly its a game that revolves around the sci-fi future world of crazy arse battles in the distant future. It uses small scale miniatures to compose a small army and beatstick it against your friends army using a set of world rules purely decided on your tactics of building the army and the luck of your dice rolls.

now for some random pics from the Games Workshop website.

There are set voctory conditions that will allow you points (killing a certain unit, taking an objective, holding and bojective, and the point cost of a unti it how many victory points it's worth.)
The starting number of point is pretty much decided by you and your opponent.

I just don't like the trial assult rules. It's streamling the rules a little too much. But maybe if I actually give them a try I might like them...

By the way how do you like that Tau? I played against them once and my Chaos Lord and his retinue wiped out about 800 points woth of his stuff.

Lets see I have been playing since 1991 ... I have probably more armies that dont exist anymore then most people have regular armies ... ie squats, chaos squats, Harlequins, Penal Legions (the old explosive collar ones), robots, Imperial Guard/Space Marine Jet Bikes ... and that is just 40k, dont get me started on my Blood Bowl, Epic, Fantasy, Necromunda, Gorka-Morka, Mordheim, etc collections ...

If anyone is in need of Games Workshop stuff, let me know I will gladly trade away a bunch of stuff for a mag of some kind.

                            ok lopxtc,
you got us beat. I guess you must like the Tau. But, like you said, you've been playing since since '91. My frined has been playing since well April. He is on his fifth army. I think the largest ones are the Eldar and the night lords. He reall digs the old raptor models.

Actually I cannot stand the Tau myself ... the only armies I have actually played in the last year or so have been my Orks and my Harlequins ...

Orks are not as fun to play as they were years ago, but they are still pretty good. And the Harlequins are great since no ones expects and army that is almsot all hand to hand to be able to win.
