Warhammer 40k'ers, how much is too much?

The models are 2nd edition. I play 3rd edition rules including the new assault and vehicle rules.

I'm kind of a dork, but I like to keep most of my models in their proper era. I have a 1500 pt Speed Freaks army I working on that is made almost solely from Gorka Morka models. I also have well over 2000 points of Crimson Fists that are 1st Edition (I can send pics if you like). I even have an original Land Raider to go with them, but I haven't taken it off the sprue yet.

I know that my Seargant is armed with a 3rd edition plasma pistol, but I thought he was kinda special.

That's cools man, I like some of the older models myself. In fact I just lost an auction on E-Bay for the old Felmae Commissar for the Imperial Guard. I also just won an auction for the Inquisitors in terminator armor.
Though, I have to admit, the new minis that are comming out look real nice. I personally love the new cadians. I think those are really cool. Especially the snipers.
I've been kicking around the idea of a forward observer team for the Imperial guard. For use with guess range ordnance weapons.
By the way, since it seems that you have a lot of older models, do you happen to know of anyone that has the female commissar for 40K? If so, and it's unpainted would they be willing to part with it for a reasonable price?

Breg, I once attacked a squad of bezerkers (my brothers actually) and wiped them all out in one turn. WAAAAAAGH!!! with 3 or 4 squads assaulting the same unit and you'll see what I mean.

I know what you mean. I just like how they really screw up armor. But, Iknow that there is always something worse than them. But, try throwing in the veteran skill furious charge. Than they get +1 strenght and init. That hurts a lot as well.
Personally I love my Iron Warriors. I get to use a basilisk and a vindicator. I also drop 2 fast attack for an extra heavy support choice. That reall does me well since i alomst never use fast attack, and I always need extra heavey support.

I go long bursts without playing, mainly due to paintball, so i end up missing the new rules and have to play catchup. It's been about a year or more now.

I have a female commisar, i got it from teh Archive section at gamesworkshop. Sorry, but i'm not interested in giving her up, but you should check out that archive...... if you havn't alreayd, and if it's still there

I heard that they plan on switching to 4th by next fall... wanted to get the chaos campain over with.

Khorne berzerkers.... sorta the heavy ended side of the shooter/attacker spectrum. Some Eldar give me plenty of trouble. Don't remember the combinations but combine flying transports with 8+ap melta weapons, along with power weapons and high initiative... all come flying in within assault range...

I, like most, don't do much with painting. My 20some bikes arn't painted, but each are posed differently. I combined standard tactical squad marines and command squad marines with some standard torsos and biker torsos for my riders. And of course, bits of orks and dark eldars for more asthetics.

Most everyone, at where i used to play, play space marines. Sorta why i started with imperial guard. But now white scars, one of the neglected chapters.

Five years ago I used to play tons of 40K. Before they changed to the current rules edition my friends and I were huge 40K addicts, and I ran a lot of the convention games in NJ and surrounding areas. My buddy and I also ran the 50 foot long 40K arena at Gen Con for two years in a row before we got out of it, and I was at the first 2 workshop tournaments in Baltimore, and was one of New Jersey's Outriders for quite a long time.

In the day I owned between 15,000 and 25,000 points of every army that was available (chaos, tyranids, Imperial Guard, Blood Angel Marine, Dark Angel Marines, Space Wolves, Ultramarines, Squat, Eldar, and my favorite - ORKS).

I was HUGE into this game, but just no more.

I scoured the archive but never found the femal commisar. That is such a cool looking model.
As for the Eldar, I want to say now: Damn the howling banshees. I hate those things. They always strike first and with power weapons to boot. Also, I hate the Aolitc. With all of those Rangers (snipers) and the whole Ranger Disruption rules make them a pain to square off against. I've had so readjust the whole game when one of my units started off pinned or in reserve.
But, I think the most flexible army is the Black Leigon. They have so many choices for units that it makes it hard to choose. I've never lost with them. You can take any daemon or chaos mark, so you can really taylor your army to what ever is going on.
The Iron Warriors, however, are my favorite. I'm a huge lover of big guns and the get some of the biggest. The Basilisk is a favorite of mine, and they get to choose it. It also happenes that I am really good at guessing ranges with indirect fire. My friends hate it when I field that thing. Most of the time the try to deep strike and take it out ASAP.
Another army I hate squaring off against is the Necrons. If you throw D-Fileds on the troops and scarabs, the cause a galncing hit on a vehicle on a roll of 6 in the assult phase. Couple that with Gauss Weapons causing a Glancing Hit on a of 6 in the Shooting Phase makes them the best anti-vehicle army out there. You have no idea how many times I've lost my land raider to lowly scarabs or necron warriors.
I'm interested to see how my guard does in combat. I'll say now that I've fully abused that docterine system and now my whole army has a 4+ save. It's only an extra 20 points per platoon. Highly worth it I think.

i hear that 4+ save.... I've been really temped to start up a Stormtrooper army, or at least a cadian/stormtrooper...
Ah, just anything with stormtroopers. Guess it's my favorite Guard unit, next to my griffon.

Yeah, the new stormtrooper models look awsome. I really like the new Cadian models too. I think it's about time they got thier butts in gear and made some new commissar models. The old ones don't look all that nice.

Yeah, Yarrick is pretty cool, but the other Commissar models are pretty dated.
Though the female commissar is pretty neat.
